This article provides a worksheet and other resources to guide occupational health nurses through the process of selecting appropriate computer systems for their organization. DEVELOPING A TASK FORCE The first step in the transition from a manual information system to an MIS is to identify a project coordinator with the responsibility and authority for managing the selection process and implementing the program (Menzel, 1994). Selecting a computer system requires both nursing knowledge and technical expertise, so the project coordinator must be supported by a task force of professionals with this expert knowledge. The task force should include nursing, technical experts, management, users, and outside personnel who will be interfacing with the system. The task force should use a systematic, problem solving approach to making a well informed decision. Several resources describe the issues to be addressed
