The hidden memory : Sacred bundles among Indians of Central Mexico (ХVth-ХVIth centuries). The sacred bundles {tlaquimilolli in nahuatl) consist in relics, once abandonned by the gods, and they were worshipped in Central Mexico during the Post-Classic period, later on in the whole of Mesoamerica. Historical and mythical documents tell how native peoples obtained them, sometimes describing their contents as well as their usage and the cults dedicated to them. As an image of the tutelary divinity, the sacred bundle would contain objects which were testimonials of the group's history. In Mexico-Tenochtitlan, the tlaquimilolli of Tezcatlipoca and Huitzilopochtli played an important part in the inauguration ceremonies of the new king, who, on this occasion, symbolically died and was reborn.
