Mobula japanica (Muller & Henle, 1841) and Masturus lanceolatus (Lienard, 1840) are widespread in warmer oceanic waters and have recently been recorded in the catches of tuna purseseine vessels in northern New Zealand. Large numbers of Mola mola (Linnaeus, 1758) are also taken each season. Additional specimens of Luvaris imperialis Rafinesque, 1810, previously recorded from New Zealand by Whitley (1968) are noted.
