In this paper, we propose a 3DTV system supporting delivery of full HD resolution 3DTV contents over HFC network. So far, we have used a 3DTV system supporting only frame-compatible format of 3DTV contents in order to provide 3DTV broadcasting service over HFC network. Using the frame-compatible format has an advantage being compatible with the current digital cable broadcasting system when transmitting the 3DTV contents over HFC network. Image quality perspective, however, this system provides relatively degraded image quality due to the decimation of stereoscopic images into a single frame. In this paper, we propose a 3DTV system delivering full HD resolution 3DTV contents over HFC network. In this system, the stereoscopic images maintain full HD resolution without decimation and interpolation processes. As a result, the proposed 3DTV system can provide better image quality than that of the 3DTV system supporting the frame-compatible format. 1
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
