Growth of guayule {Parthenitan argentatum A. Gray) in a moderate and a bifibly sabne-sodic soil was increased by inoculation witb Glomus intraradiees Scbenck & Smith. Tbe growth of guayule plants was stimulated equally by tbe addition to tbe soil of either 100 //g g ' of pbospborus (P) or inoculum of G. intraradiees.Mycorrbizal plants bad increased concentrations of I'O, and decreased concentrations of Na in sboot tissues compared to noninoculated control plants. Addition of 100/,gg ' of P to tbe soil increased tbe accumulation of PO, in tbe sboot tissues and in most instances decrease accumulation of Cu, Zn, Na, K, and SO,,. Concentrations of Na, K, and CI and frequently Mn in tbe sboot tissues were increased wbile tbe concentrations of PO and SO,, in sboot tissues were generally decreased by tbe addition of NaCI to tbe soil. ' Addition of l()O//gg > of P to tbe soil did not markedly affect tbe colonization of guayule roots by G. intraradiees. Tbe roots of mycorrbizal guayule grown in soil witb NaCI added contained decreased numbers of arbuscules and vesicles. Addition of botb P and NaCI to tbe soil reduced tbe formation of arbuscules and vesicles and reduced tbe occurrence of moderate and beavy levels of root colonization.
