IN the time available today it is not possible to deal with an industry so large, so scattered, so varied, as the silk industry in India. In the report prepared by Mr. Ansorge and myself the full details of the industry are recorded, and this report will shortly be available. This afternoon I pro pose to describe very briefly the general conditions of the industry, to state its extent, and to enable you to see whether India can ever be a large source of supply of silk raw products to this country.
