Background: An important factor influencing duration of breastfeeding is mother's employment status. Aim: To investigate the effect of educational program on pregnant knowledge and practice regarding how to continue breast feeding after returning to work. Design: A quasi-experimental design was utilized. Setting: The study was conducted at Outpatient Clinic and High risk Units of special Hospital at Beni-Suef University. Sample: A convenience sample of all available pregnant working women (300 women) from the previously mentioned setting. The following study tools were used (pre/posttests): 1) Structured interview questionnaire to assess pregnant working women` s knowledge regarding how to continue b r e a s t milk feeding after returning to work. 2) Working women`s practice observation checklists to assess pregnant working women`s practicesuch as hand washing, breast care and nipple cleaning, breast massage, Daily shower, Finding the perfect pump, Staying pumped and Maintaining supply Boosting milk supply and Storing and reusing milk. Results: The mothers' age ranged between 30< 34 years with mean age 31.03 ± 4.50and 45%of them had Secondary/higher educations. There was a highly statistically significant difference (P<.0001), regarding their knowledge and practices before, immediately after, and at follow up guideline implementation about how to continue b r e a s t milk feeding after returning t o work. Conclusion: The present study concluded that, the educational guideline had a positive effect on mothers' knowledge and practice about how to continue b r e a s t milk feeding after returning t o work. Recommendations: Provide continuous education and training for working women regarding how to continue b r e a s t milk feeding after returning to work. Supporting legislation to provide private, hygienic lactation rooms to ensure the safe storage of expressed milk.
Background: kidney stones in children has been recognized as a major source of morbidity and are considered a significant health problem. Changing eating habits as an increase in the number of sodium children eat through processed foods and table salt. The rise with obesity and less active lifestyles may also cause more children to have kidney stones. Aim: The study aimed to determine the effect of instructional guidelines on dietary knowledge and practices among mothers of children with kidney stones. Design: A quasi-experimental research design was used in the current study. Setting: The research was carried out in
Overweight and obesity are risk factors for the development of chronic diseases with at least 2.8 million adults dying each year as a result of being overweight or obese. Aim: Determine the effect of educational intervention based on the health belief model among high-risk undergraduate nursing students for obesity. Research design: A quasi-experimental research design pre-post-test was utilized in this study. Settings: The study was conducted at the Faculty of Nursing at Mansoura University. Subjects: A purposive sample composed of 160 undergraduate nursing students who are at high risk for obesity was included. Tools of data collection: Tool (I): A Self-administered questionnaire, was composed of 4 parts, part one: Undergraduate nursing students' data, and part two: Undergraduate nursing students' knowledge regarding obesity. Part three: Undergraduate nursing students' self-reported practices regarding healthy food and regular exercise. Part four: The effects of obesity on undergraduate nursing students' lifestyle assessment sheet. Tool (II): The health belief model assessment sheet. Tool (III): Anthropometric measurement to detect body mass index. Results: Revealed that more than two-fifths of undergraduate nursing students were in obesity class1, and two-fifths were in obesity class II. There was a highly significant difference between undergraduate nursing students' knowledge & their practices regarding obesity, healthy food, and exercises pre & post-educational intervention based on the health belief model. Conclusion:The study concluded that educational intervention based on the health belief model has a positive effect on improved knowledge and practices among high-risk undergraduate nursing students for obesity. Recommendations: The study suggested that the educational intervention based on the health belief model should be integrated into care among high-risk undergraduate nursing students for obesity. Conducting routine screening by measuring body mass index for undergraduate nursing students who are at high-risk for obesity.
Background:The universal population aging is associated with rising prevalence of chronic physical and mental disorders. The provision of nursing care to elderly people is challenging. So that the study Aim was to investigate the influence of emotional intelligence (EI) on gerontological nurses' feeling of personal achievement (PA) at work. It is hypothesized that the scores of EI and PA are positively correlated. Subjects and methods: This cross-sectional analytic study was conducted in departments and units providing long-term care for geriatric patients at Beni-Suef University Hospitals on a convenience sample of 157 nurses providing care for these patients. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire that included the Trait Emotional Intelligence Que-Short Form to measure EI, and the Personal Achievement scale, a part of Maslach Burnout Inventory. All research ethics were complied with. Results: Most nurses were female (89.2%), with diploma degree (80.9%) nurses, in age range 20-57 years. Only 11.5% of the nurses had high EI, with mean 4.51 from a maximum score of 7.00; 21.0% of them had high feeling of PA, with a mean score 31.68 out of a maximum of 48.00. PA score has statistically significant positive correlations with all EI domains and with nurse's age and experience years. The multivariate analysis identified EI score as a positive predictor of PA, particularly the domains of self-control and wellbeing. Conclusion and recommendations:Nurses in the study settings have low EI and feeling of PA, EI is a positive predictor of their feeling of PA. Staff development activities and training in EI is recommended for gerontological nurses. Intervention research is suggested to examine the effectiveness of training gerontological nurses in EI on elderly patients' satisfaction with nursing care.
Children spend the majority of their time at school, where they are exposed to a variety of small injuries, all of which have an impact on their current and future health. Before professional medical assistance is available, first aid is used to treat any accident or illness. The teacher is the most important person who can attend to minor injuries in the classroom by having a thorough understanding of first aid. Aim to evaluate the effect of structured educational package on primary school teachers' knowledge and practice regarding first aid management among school children. Subjects and method: Design: A quasi-experimental research design was utilized to achieve the aim of this study. Setting: the research was conducted in five primary schools in Beni-Suef City. Subjects: By applying the non-probability purposive sampling technique, 200 primary school teachers were selected for the study from the previously selected settings. Tools: A selfadministered questionnaire was used in this study; it includes three parts: Primary school teachers' demographic data, primary school teachers' first aids knowledge, and primary school teachers' first aids reported practices. Results: The study results revealed that the mean post-test knowledge score regarding first aid management was significantly higher than that of the mean pretest knowledge score; the mean post-test reported practices score was significantly higher than the mean pretest practical knowledge score. There was a positive correlation (P=0.005) between primary school teachers ' knowledge and their practice scores post-structured educational package implementation regarding first aid management. Conclusion: The study concluded that the first-aid structured educational package implementation for primary school teachers had a positive effect on improving their knowledge and practice. Recommendation: Implementation of the structured educational package is highly recommended for all primary school teachers to improve their first-aid knowledge and reported practices. Further research should be conducted to evaluate the impact of such a structured educational package on school health safety and child health.
