A vibration energy harvesting generator was studied in the present research using point-defect phononic crystal with piezoelectric material. By removing a rod from a perfect phononic crystal, a resonant cavity was formed. The elastic waves in the range of gap frequencies were all forbidden in any direction, while the waves with resonant frequency were localized and enhanced in the resonant cavity. The collected vibration energy was converted into electric energy by putting a polyvinylidene fluoride film in the middle of the defect. This structure can be used to simultaneously realize both vibration damping and broad-distributed vibration energy harvesting.
This paper first employs and develops an exact wave-based vibration analysis approach to investigate a finite Timoshenko beam carrying periodic two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) uncoupled force-moment type resonators. In the approach, vibrations are described as structural waves that propagate along uniform structural elements and reflected and transmitted at structural discontinuities. Each uncoupled force-moment type resonator is considered as a cell which injects waves into the distributed beam through the transverse force and the bending moment at the attached point. By assembling wave relations of the cells into the beam, the forced vibration problem of the locally resonant (LR) structure is turned to be the solution to a related set of matrix equations. In addition, the parametric analysis provides an efficient method to obtain wide low-frequency range band-gaps. Accuracy of the proposed wave-based vibration analysis approach is demonstrated by the simulated and measured results of two sets of beam-like resonator samples.
In order to improve the activation of the mirror neuron system and the ability of the visual-cued motor imagery further, the multi-stimuli-cued unilateral lower limb motor imagery is studied in this paper. The visual-auditory evoked pathway is proposed and the sensory process is studied. To analyze the visual-auditory interactions, the kinesthetic motor imagery with the visual-auditory stimulus, visual stimulus and no stimulus are involved. The motor-related rhythm suppression is applied on quantitative evaluation. To explore the statistical sensory process, the causal relationships among the functional areas and the event-related potentials are investigated. The results have demonstrated the outstanding performances of the visual-auditory evoked motor imagery on the improvement of the mirror neuron system activation and the motor imagery ability. Besides, the abundant information interactions among functional areas and the positive impacts of the auditory stimulus in the motor and the visual areas have been revealed. The possibility that the sensory processes evoked by the visual-auditory interactions differ from the one elicited by kinesthetic motor imagery, has also been indicated. This study will promisingly offer an efficient way to motor rehabilitation, thus favorable for hemiparesis and partial paralysis patients.
This paper employs and develops the exact wave-based vibration analysis approach to investigate the propagation properties of a designed finite lightweight locally resonant (LR) beam with two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) force-moment-type resonators attached periodically inside. By deriving the propagation, reflection, and transmission matrices of the structural discontinuities, the vibration of the LR beam can be described as structural waves. By assembling wave relations into the beam, the approach shows high efficiency because the forced vibration problem of the lightweight LR structure is turned to be the solution to a related set of matrix equations. The accuracy of the developed approach is validated with two examples carried out using the finite element method. In addition, the influence of the main parameters of the LR beam is studied and we found that the increase in the mass of the resonator and the stiffness of the spring are more sensitive in broadening the width and increasing the center frequency of the band gap of the designed lightweight LR beam. The proposed structure and analysis approach in this paper may provide an exact and efficient means for the design and analysis of structures in which damping and lightweight properties are required, such as space-arm and the framework of antennas in the field of aerospace.
