The article is a contribution to a long-standing discussion on how idioms are represented and accessed in the mental lexicon. More specifically, in a timed cloze response study we investigate high and low syntactic flexibility idioms in Polish in order to find out whether the degree of syntactic flexibility influences the ease and time of idioms’ recognition. By doing so we contribute to the question of whether idioms are differently represented in the lexicon depending on their syntactic flexibility, as suggested by Nunberg et al. 1994 and Gibbs and Nayak 1989, or whether all idioms independent of their syntactic flexibility are represented lexically in the same hybrid way, as suggested by Cutting and Bock 1997 and Sprenger et al. 2006. The results of our study support the latter view.
This paper presents the results of research carried out during the first stage of the Polish education system transition process initiated by the education reform of 2017. The study was conducted with teachers of schools to be dissolved, who decided to transform their institutions into a new type of school -general education secondary school (lyceum), while retaining staff and organizational resources of the hitherto middle schools (gymnasium). A processual approach adopted in this project allowed me to capture the changes as they were happening and the analysis of the conditions of transition trajectories.
W artykule, odwołując się do własnych doświadczeń badawczych, wskazuję rolę i potencjał badawczy tkwiący w zapisanych i przetworzonych notach terenowych.Słowa kluczowe: nota terenowa; przetwarzanie not terenowych; badania jakościowe.Summary. Qualitative research is specifically based on data gathered from various sources. One of such sources are fieldnotes recorded by researchers in the form of memoirs, personal diaries, institutional records, and various notes taken in the course of field research. Recorded according to very individual and personal criteria, fieldnotes are not designed to be presented to external readers. Nevertheless, a large proportion of such notes is included in the final research report. Based on my personal research experience, in this paper I discuss the role and research potential of recorded and then properly processed fieldnotes.
This paper discusses the outcomes of the first stage of conducted qualitative research on professional socialization of novice teachers. The presented analysis refers to the transition period from the role of a student to that of an employee and uncovers the less well-known empirically side of the coin in teacher training with regards to professional socialization of novice teachers – the perspective of constructing one’s professional path at the intersection of two cultures: the culture of academia and the workplace culture.
