Sebelum adanya Covid-19, pembelajaran dilakukan secara tatap muka. Akan tetapi, hadirnya Covid-19 membuat pembelajaran dilakukan secara daring (online), maupun luring (offline). Dalam proses pembelajaran online, para guru harus mengikuti perkembangan dalam adaptasi penggunaan teknolgi yang baru. Walaupun sudah ada yang menerapkan tatap muka dan pembelajran jarak jauh. Permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh mitra adalah dampak Covid-19 ini membuat pembelajaran daring (online) mengakibatkan beberapa siswa masih ada yang belum dapat membaca. Selain kemampuan literasi, pengetahuan numerasi juga masih rendah. Hal ini disebabkan guru belum dapat mengoptimalkan media pembelajaran bekaitan literasi dan numerasi. Oleh karena itu, tim PKM mengadakan pelatihan peningkatan literasi dan numerasi melalui adaptasi teknologi di SD Negeri Srijaya 04 Bekasi. Dengan hadirnya pelatihan ini, para guru diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan literasi dan numerasi siswa melalui adaptasi teknologi. Selain itu, para guru juga diharapkan dapat menguasai adaptasi teknologi di bidang literasi dan numerasi. Pelaksanaan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dilaksanakan dalam bentuk sosialisasi, pengenalan, pelatihan, dan praktik penerapan literasi dan numerasi melaui adaptasi teknologi kepada guru-guru SD Negeri Srijaya 04 Bekasi. Berdasarkan dari hasil pengabdian kepada masyarakat, para guru sangat menyambu positif dan antusias dalam mengikuti kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dan para guru sangat senang dengan hasil yang sudah dilaksanakan karena mereka langsung mempraktikkan teori yang telah diberikan. Melalui kegiatan ini, PKM ini diharapkan mampu meningkatkan kemampuan literasi dan numerasi melalui adaptasi teknologi.
In social situations, people must be able to recognize the faces of others to respond to emotions and maintain relationships. People are supposed to utilize politeness strategies to save their faces. The purpose of this research is to explain the different functions and kinds of politeness strategies utilized by Kit Connor in the television show The Heart Stopper. This study falls under discourse analysis and employs Brown and Levinson's theory of politeness strategies. In the form of utterances and words, this data is the script for the television series The Heart Stopper. According to our findings, Kit Connor's politeness strategy is used in 37 utterances. She used the baldness strategy 18.9% or 7 times of the time, positive politeness 54% or 20 times of the time, negative politeness 24.4% or 9 times of the time, and informally used 24.4% or 1 time of the time.2.7% used. Kit Connor's favourite politeness strategy is the "offer and promise" part of the positive politeness strategy. The strategy is employed 18.9%, or 7 times of the time. Generally, he employs politeness strategies in his daily life to maintain and build positive relationships with others
The purpose of this study was to know the kinds of figurative language used in selected lyrics of Coldplay song. This research was designed to identify some figurative language by understanding the general meaning when they are used in the lyrics of songs. The technique of descriptive analysis offered to analyze data by reading the data, then identifying the figurative language used in the lyrics of the song. After identifying some figurative languages then they are categorized into some kinds of figurative languages. Then, the general meaning of figurative language by identifying the lexical meaning and contextual meaning of the four selected lyrics of the song are used to analyze the data got from the song. Based on research findings, some figurative languages were found in Coldplay’s selected songs. Most of the figurative language which is used in the lyrics of Coldplay’s selected songs is “Hyperbole” which has a great exaggeration used to emphasize a point, and used for expressive or comic effect. The meanings which were found from the song are classified into connotative meanings. The lyrics of Coldplay’s selected songs tell us about humanity’s social life which contains love, sadness, happiness, spirit and others. In the lyrics of Coldplay’s selected songs, figurative languages are helpful to understand the song. The existence of figurative language is not to complicate the understanding of lyrics but to simplify and clear the understanding of lyrics. The song is very suitable for English Learners who want to improve their English skills in analyzing lyrics that contain figurative language. From the explanation above can be concluded that in analyzing lyrics besides finding figurative language in lyrics, the meanings of the song that contain figurative languages and messages of the song can be understood.
The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the effectiveness of Semantic Mapping strategies in teaching reading comprehension in second grade students of SMK Bardan Wasalaman Batang. The research question is whether Semantic Mapping strategies are effective in Reading of English for Foreign language Class. Forty-two eleventh grade of in SMK Bardan Wasalaman Batang was chosen as a subject and divided equally into two groups; one group is the experimental group and the other is the control group. There are several procedures carried out in data collection to answer research questions; first, a pre-test is given before the experiment is performed to ascertain whether there are no significant differences in English proficiency in the two subject groups of lesson. Subjects are required to complete a reading comprehension test consisting of forty-five multiple-choice tests within ninety minutes. Second, after the experiment, a post-test was carried out using the same test for the pre-test. Finally, the t-test was used to determine whether there were significant differences in the achievement of reading comprehension between the two groups. The data showed that there were significant differences in the achievement of reading comprehension between the experimental groups - treated with Semantic Mapping strategies and the control group taught with KWL strategy. It means that the Semantic Mapping Strategy is more effective than KWL Strategy. The data indicate that there is significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the experimental group - treated and Semantic Mapping strategy, and the control group taught with KWL strategy. It means that Semantic Mapping Strategy is more effective than KWL Strategy.
ABSTRAK Bahasa merupakan wahana komunikasi bagi manusia, baik komunikasi lisan maupun komunikasi tulis. Setiap komunikasi, khususnya komunikasi tertulis, dibutuhkan kalimat-kalimat yang baik. Kalimat yang baik erat kaitannya dengan penggunaan kalimat efektif. Berdasarkan fenomena yang terjadi akhir- akhir ini ditemukan bahwa produktivitas guru masih rendah dalam menyampaikan ujaran menggunakan kalimat efektif. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan agar para guru di RA Bani Barun Majalengka dapat memahami dan menerapkan kalimat efektif pada Bahasa Indonesia dan Bahasa Inggris. Metode pelaksanaan pelatihan ini terdiri dari empat tahap diantaranya kegiatan sosialisasi, pengenalan kalimat efektif, pelatihan kalimat efektif, dan praktik penerapan kalimat efektif. Hasil kegiatan ini yaitu kompetensi guru mengenai penerapan kalimat efektif meningkat. Hal ini tergambar dari partisipasi aktif para guru dalam menyimak materi, diskusi, dan mengerjakan tugas yang diberikan oleh narasumber. Selain itu, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini juga tergolong berhasil karena sesuai dengan tahapan-tahapan pelaksanaan yang telah ditentukan. Adapun tindak lanjut dari kegiatan ini adalah pelaksanaan pengabdian kepada masyarakat kembali dengan pola paragraf dan pengembangan paragraf pada bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Inggris. ABSTRACT Language is a means of communication for humans, both oral communication and written communication. Every communication, especially written communication, requires good sentences. Good sentences are closely related to the use of effective sentences. Based on the phenomenon that has occurred recently, it was found that teacher productivity is still low in conveying utterances using effective sentences. This community service program aims to enable teachers of RA Bani Barun Majalengka to understand and apply effective sentences in both Indonesian and English. The method of implementing this training consists of four stages including socialization activities, introduction to effective sentences, training of effective sentences, and practice of applying effective sentences. The result of this activity shows that the teacher's competence regarding the application of effective sentences increases evidenced from the teachers’ active participation in listening to the material, discussion, and working on the assignments given by the presenters. In addition, this community service program is classified as successful since it meets the target proposed by the team. The follow-up theme for the next community service program will be paragraph patterns and paragraph development in Indonesian and English.
