Primary health care (PHC) is again high on the international agenda. It was the theme of The World Health Report in 2008, thirty years after the Alma-Ata Declaration, and has been the topic of a series of significant conferences around the world throughout 2008. What have we learnt about its impact in improving population health and health equity? What more do we still need to know? These two questions frame a four-year international research/capacity-building project, 'Revitalizing Health for All' (RHFA), funded by the Canadian Global Health Research Initiative (http://www.idrc.ca/en/ev-108118-201-1-DO_TOPIC.html). The RHFA project is organised under the umbrella of the People?s Health Movement (http://www.phmovement.org/en) and the International People?s Health University (http://phmovement.org/iphu/), and involves researchers from over a dozen countries. Our project team?s understanding of PHC is of a comprehensive approach aimed at reducing health inequities that is based on meaningful community participation, multidisciplinary teams and action across sectors.
Second Life (SL) is an online virtual world that iscapturing popularity in academic institutions as an alternative means for collaborative and distance education. University of Bahrain is an academic institution with an intension to apply this application to overcome some of the obstacles they are encountering in education. Before using SL in education in the academic institutions, it is essential to measure the students' initial experience and the factors associated with the intension to use it to enforce its success. Therefore, this study is to present the experience of using SL at University of Bahrain in terms of the students' initial experience and factors that affect their intention to use it. Toward achieving the objectives a survey was employed using Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and extended factors are employed for this purpose. The model is tested through a survey administered to UOB's students. Results of the initial investigation suggest that that almost two third of the respondents agreed on SL being easy to use and useful tool in education thus accepting the use of it for educational purposes. Results of the research show that perceived ease of use affects user's intention to adopt SL through perceived usefulness. Computer self-efficacy, computer playfulness, and computer anxiety are also significant antecedents to perceived ease of use of virtual worlds. Implications for educators and designers are presented.
Today, many hospitals seek to adopt the latest and most sophisticated technologies in order to raise the service quality and users' satisfaction. The Electronic Health Record (EHR) had a substantial impact on the health sector and has enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare providers. The purpose of this research is to examine the factors that affect users' satisfaction with the current Health Record System in the Kingdom of Bahrain. A research model was built based on three popular models of users' satisfaction toward information systems. Toward achieving the research objective, a quantitative approach was followed to collect data from an online survey. Accordingly, 152 responses were collected from the users of EHR in public hospitals and health centres in Bahrain. The results of the survey were analyzed using SPSS and SmartPLS 3.0. It was concluded that the most effective factors in the users' satisfaction with EHR were directly service quality and technical support, with system and information quality indirectly through trust.
