Stenting causes a more vigorous ECM and MMP response than BA, which involves all layers of the vessel wall. Inhibition by MMP blocks in-stent intimal hyperplasia and offers a novel approach to prevent in-stent restenosis.
Intravascular cryotherapy induced early arterial wall cell loss and late intimal hyperplasia, vascular fibrosis and chondro- and osseous metaplastic changes with no late beneficial effects on lumen area compared to balloon angioplasty alone. Collagen accumulation in all three layers of the vessel wall contributes to the development of late inward remodeling after balloon angioplasty.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
