This genus belongs to the group of monozoic, nonsegmented tapeworms that are included in the order ▶ Caryophyllidea and occurs in cypriniform and siluriform fishes of Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America. Three species (A. huronensis, A. sagittarius, A. tenuicollis) are known so far. However, A. tenuicollis is apparently a synonym of Khawia tenuicollis. Their length is about 1 cm and their scolex is provided with an umbrella-like cirrus sac.
