Seeing biochemical events is essential to understand the function of cells and organisms. Such imaging depends on the selective targeting of fluorescent reporters and biosensors in living systems. These reporters and biosensors can be entirely synthetic, entirely genetically encoded or hybrid. Hybrid reporters and biosensors composed of a genetically encoded module that binds a fluorogenic chromophore and activates its fluorescence have recently drawn attention as they offer new opportunities for pushing the frontiers of bioimaging.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
