The employability of graduates from an institution is very important to note. It is through education and proper training that one may get a decent job after graduation. This study intends to show the employability of teacher education graduates in an Asian public university. The methodological approach was both quantitative and qualitative. Interviews were semi-structured and used a standard set of questions; however graduates were encouraged and motivated to share stories and explain how and why they had arrived at their conclusions and to describe any relevant experiences in the workplace. The findings reveal that the graduates who specialized in English, Mathematics and Sciences are academically talented and motivated group with considerable aspirations to be the teaching model. The study also highlights that Science majors are the most employable graduates while Mathematics majors able to handle other learning areas such as Computer Education and Economics. Many Mathematics major graduates can diversify further through postgraduate studies, either into research or advanced courses in Mathematics in order to be promoted an also for professional and academic growth. It is therefore concluded that there are three top priorities in the workplace for graduates, these includes: challenging/interesting work, a high salary and professional growth. Education must reflect the world it is training students for. Education 4.0 ensures that teaching-learning experiences will take advantage of the limitless opportunities created by advanced technology. This study determines the readiness of teacher education institutions in the Philippines for Education 4.0 in the areas of faculty, teaching and learning, infrastructure, and research as perceived by the administrators and faculty members of teacher education institutions in the Philippines. This study made use of survey questionnaire indicating the four parameters mentioned, and data were analysed using quantitative method. The findings of this study suggest that administrators and faculty members perceived that they are ready in terms of their skills in selecting and integrating digital resources for teaching and learning as they are also given capacity buildings through seminars and conferences related to technological literacy. However, they are neither skillful in using the learning management system and other online class modality; nor in the utilization of augmented reality, robotics, and digital enablers like 3D printing. This finding may be attributed to the unavailability and inaccessibility of digital infrastructure and virtual laboratories in most teacher education institutions. The respondents also disagreed that the teacher education institutions are ready in terms of research programs and initiatives for Education 4.0. Thus, there is a need for teacher education institutions to rethink infrastructure planning, redesign research initiatives, and strengthen teacher-training capabilities to be Education 4.0 ready.
Facebook is one of the popular social networking sites used by students. First-year college students who have primarily engaged themselves in Facebook are being influenced and affected by such media platforms. Students who use Facebook frequently are likely influenced by other people. On the other hand, their studies can likely be distracted. Instead of spending their time reviewing their school lessons, students get tempted to allot much of their time using Facebook. This study determined the reasons and feedback of first-year college students using Facebook. This research using a mixed method of quantitative and qualitative in interpreting and analyzing the data. The respondents were the first-year college students of Cebu Normal University, Cebu City. Findings revealed that using Facebook may cause adverse effects on students' academic performance due to frequent use of such media. However, Howeverebook can also bring positive effects to the students' academic performance. As a communication tool, Facebook provides information and acquiring knowledge from the different Facebook users. Facebook is beneficial in their studies. Through Facebook, college students can now share and exchange information through brainstorming and collaborating in the Group Chat. Therefore, the utilization of Facebook in learning as a tool in instruction during the Covid-19 pandemic is beneficial to learners and lecturers.
E-portfolios are useful tools for learning and assessment. With this, this paper investigated the utilization of these electronic tools in teacher education institutions (TEIs) of higher education. Using embedded mixed design, a survey and focus group discussions were conducted with 85 college teachers in TEIs in Central Visayas, Philippines. Findings revealed that teachers utilized e-portfolios for students’ progress and the former’s school work but moderately implemented them for improving the latter’s learning experiences. The use of e-portfolios is highly effective towards pedagogical considerations and effective in academics’ teaching and usability. Qualitative results show that e-portfolios have gains and challenges, but teachers acknowledge the importance of the tools in education. In conclusion, e-portfolios have helped college teachers in TEIs in enhancing students’ experiences in learning and assessment, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. A framework for utilizing e-portfolios in higher education is crafted.
