The rote learning ability of human subjects under conditions of sensory deprivation for 48 hours was compared with results for a control group. The performance of the two groups was essentially the same. No significant facilitation or decrement in performance was noted, and in no instance were hallucinations, delusions, or other unusual phenomena reported.
As part of a larger study of the effects of expectancy on short-term sensory deprivation, the performance of 19 males and 17 females, undergoing 2 hr. of sensory deprivation, was compared on three behavioral measures: Isolation Disturbance, Time Disturbance, and Imagery Disturbance. No significant differences were found between the sexes on any measure.
