Eighteen cases of 10 years after psycho-surgery (bifrontal lobectomy 2, bifrontal lobotomy 11, unilateral temporal lobotomy 3 and lenticotomy 2) were studied. P. E. G. revealed various types of enlargement of the lateral venticle in 13 out of 15 cases (86 o/). Atrophy of cortex occured in 8 cases (frontal lobe 5, and whole cerebrum 3). E. E. E. examination was done in 16 cases and were classified as 14 abnormal and 2 normal. Detail of E. E. G. findings were as follows: Asymmetry of posterior background activity (frequency and amplitude) 5, bilateral burst 6, focal formation 2, anterior theta episode 3 and central theta episode 3. There was no shifting burst between homologous areas. Fifteen cerebral angiography were performed and results of which were not remarkable. However, there were some narrowing and thinness of vessels. Overextension and arterio-sclerotic change of the vessel were seen as well. There was relatively good correlation between PEG and EEG studies. Many cases with enlargement of the venticles gave abnormal E.E.G. finding.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
