The main purpose of this research is to examine whether the hotel staff impressions hold towards cloud Human Resource Information System (HRIS) importance and adoption are varied according to the hotel category. An experimental 2x2 full factorial design was performed with data collected from 80 hotel employees. Participants were purposively selected through the online web pages of LinkedIn and Facebook. Findings of this experiment showed an overall lack of cloud HRIS adoption in the 3-star hotels than 5-star hotels in Egypt and most of cloud HRIS activities are still used in a very limited extent. In addition, the perception of the degree of importance varies significantly between the hotel types. The main implication of this study within the Egyptian hotel sector is that to be more innovative and competitive, the hotel corporations will need to invest significantly in smart innovation within their HR departments to benefit from the strategic and operational advantages of cloud HRIS. This study is considered one of the few studies that operationalised the concept of cloud HRIS in the Egyptian hotel industry; it highlighted the cloud HRIS key affecting factors based on the Technology Organization Environment (TOE) model and HR activities in hotel.
This research aims to explore the current strategies and practices of talent management (TM) within five star hotels in Egypt. To achieve the research aim, an online questionnaire was used as a tool for data collection. 212 general managers and human resource managers in the investigated hotels were targeted to identify the practices adopted to attract, select, develop, and retain talent employees. The research revealed that the practices of talent management are still at an early stage of development, and the concept and the process require further understanding. One of the key results was that most of the investigated hotels implemented some of the basic principles and components of TM system but the actual practice has not yet been demonstrated as a complete and integrated approach. Most of the managers were aware of the benefit of talent management. This research, therefore, contributes to provide a deeper knowledge and understanding on how human talents are being managed in an important sector of the hospitality industry.
In the hotel industry maintenance is important despite of its complex processes as its effectiveness will directly affect the quality of hotel service and have direct effect on guests' impression of the hotel. in the same time, the costs of operating and maintaining the hotel engineering systems must be properly monitored and controlled in particular the in-house manpower, out-source contracts, energy consumption and equipment deterioration. There are limited literatures available regarding the hotel maintenance cost analysis, This is what urged the researcher to conduct this study which aims to develop a hotel maintenance cost index, to compare hotel maintenance costs and the distribution of this cost over the different maintenance approaches and in-house and out-sourced strategies among the three, four, and fivestar hotels. The quantitative research methodology of the interview was conducted with hotel's chief engineer or maintenance supervisor in three, four, and five-star hotels in Egypt (via-phone interview). The study revealed an index benchmark number that could be used to compare maintenance operations cost in three, four, and five-star hotels which also could be used in planning hotels maintenance expenditures if we know the value of this expenditure in other hotel categories.
