nursing informatics is a new specialty in Egypt. It is becoming an important and integral part of healthcare organizations, it affects nursing outcome and quality of health care. Therefore, involving informatics basic knowledge and skills within a nursing education program is recommended to meet the future challenging trends that globally affect nursing workforce. Aim of the study: To assess nursing students' perception and educational needs regarding nursing informatics . Research Design: Descriptive Cross-sectional design was used in this study. Setting: The study was conducted at the Faculty of Nursing, Beni Suef University. Sample: Convenient sample (n= 390) of nursing students from different academic levels, encountering in baccalaureate science of nursing program during academic year 2015-2016. Tools of data collection: 1-Self administered nursing informatics perception questionnaire, 2-Nursing informatics educational needs. Results: revealed that nursing students highly perceived importance of informatics application in education and health care mean % (90.73% and 86.86% respectively). Main educational needs of nursing informatics include: application of informatics in education, tele-medicine, ethics of informatics and hospital information system (98.2%, 97.4%, 96.9%, and 96.4% respectively). Conclusion: nursing students highly perceived importance of informatics application in healthcare and education. There was statistical significant difference between nursing students perception regarding nursing informatics by their academic year, students educational needs include application of informatics in education, tele-medicine, ethics of informatics and hospital information system. Recommendations: develop and integrate nursing informatics course specification design based on nursing students' educational needs, support the faculty of nursing with resources and fund to build appropriate infrastructure necessary to apply nursing informatics, provide faculty teachers with an opportunity to learn and develop skills about nursing informatics in order to prepare them to integrate this course within the curriculum and courses they teach.
Background: Work engagement is a positive state of mind characterized by the extent to which employees are vigorous. Spirituality is a sense of wholeness, connectedness at work, and deeper values. Aim: The current study aimed to compare workplace spirituality and engagement among faculty staff versus their assistants. Subject and Methods: A descriptive comparative research design was used. Setting: This study was conducted at faculty of nursing Beni-Suef University. Sample: Convenient sample of all available staff on job during data collection period. (48) Faculty staff members and ( 79) faculty staff members' assistants were included in the study. Tools: Data were collected using two tools; workplace spirituality questionnaire and work engagement scale. Results: More than three quarters of faculty staff members had high work engagement level while more than two thirds for their assistants, more than two thirds of faculty staff members had high workplace spirituality and majority of their assistants had high level. Conclusion: The current study concluded that there is no significant difference among the perception of the faculty staff members and their assistants regarding workplace spirituality, while there is a significant difference between the perception of the faculty staff and faculty staff assistants regarding work engagement. Recommendations: The study recommends encourage high spirituality of all faculty staff and workers, reward high engaged staff and gives more appreciation, enhance sense of community for all staff and workers, and disseminate organizational values all over the faculty to get more cooperation.
Background:The growing need for better utilization of nursing manpower in the delivery of health care is a significant aspect of the national concern. So, nursing manpower should be well managed to improve health services efficiently. Aim: The current study aimed to explore utilization and problems of nursing manpower at Ministry of Health hospitals in Beni-Suef governorate. Subject and Methods: A descriptive exploratory design was used. The study was conducted at ten hospitals which provide both inpatient and out-patient services. The hospitals included in the study were affiliated to the Ministry of Health at Beni-Suef governorate. Sample of this study included; a simple random sample of 495 nurses was selected to assess their opinion about nature of the work and its problems, and nurses' personal records of the total (2024) nurses were retrospectively audited. Data were collected using two tools; Nurses oppinionnaire about nature of the work and its problems, and auditing checklist to review nurses personal records retrospectively for one year. Results: The results showed that the highest moderate utilization was at the Rural Hospitals (53.6%), and the highest low utilization levels were at Beni-Suef General Hospital and Specialty Hospitals (67.4% & 65.8% respectively). Also, the highest total percentage of all studied nurses sees lack of supply and facilities lack of training programs as a work problem (39.3% & 38.7% respectively).Conclusion: The study concluded that lack of supplies and training were the main problems, and utilization level ranged from 20% to 59% for Beni-Suef governorate hospitals. Recommendations: The study recommends designing nursing manpower plan based on relevant data and estimated future needs, continues training programs, empowering nursing administrators with adequate authority.
