Our objective was to determine the prevalence juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) in Sharkia Governorate, Egypt. Population-based study was performed to identify the prevalence of JIA in Sharkia Governorate, Egypt, between November 2009 and November 2010. Prevalence of JIA was 3.43 per 100,000 (95 % CI 3.1-4.3). Prevalence in boys was 2.58 per 100,000 (95 % CI 2.4-3.6) and in girls 4.33 per 100,000 (95 % CI 3.3-5.1). Uveitis presented in 19.7 % of cases, antinuclear antibody in 48.5 %, and rheumatoid factor in 27.2 %. Oligoarthritis representing 52.2 % of the total population, and enthesitis-related arthritis presented only in 6 patients. No cases of undifferentiated arthritis or psoriatic arthritis were found. This is the first epidemiological study of JIA in Sharkia, Egypt. Oligoarthritis was the most common subtype.
Background: Egyptian women value contraceptive methods for their effectiveness against pregnancy.Objective: This study aimed to determine the usage and side effects of oral contraceptive pills among the target group. Patients and methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out on 350 women from family health centers and units in Abo Hammad District, Sharkia Governorate. Data were collected through a questionnaire Results: Majority (81.1%) of the studied group used combined pills The most frequent side effects found among them were depression, breast pain & inflammation, weight gain and abnormal vaginal secretions (63.7%, 57.7%, 56.6% & 56.3% respectively). ConclusionThe present study revealed that prevalence of pills usage among 350 studied females in Abo Hammad District, Sharkia Governorate was 62.9%. The prevalence of combined pills was 81.1% and Mini pills was 18.9%.
Background: Neck pain (NP) is regarded as a chronic episodic condition characterized by persistent, recurrent, or fluctuating pain and disability. Low back pain (LBP) is social and economic health problem that affects population of all ages globally. Objective: To evaluate the prevalence and associated risk factors of neck and low back pains among students at Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University. Patients and Methods: This was a cross sectional study that included 360 students at Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University through the period from September 2018 to April 2019. Assessment of presence or absence of neck pain and back pain by Standardized Nordic Musculoskeletal questionnaire. Results: 96 of the students were males (26.6%) and 264 were females (73.3%), their ages ranged from 18-25 years with a mean of 20.68 ± 1.92 years old, where 162 students of them ≤ 20 (45%) & 198 of them > 20 years old (55%). Prevalence of neck pain and/or low back pain among the studied group of students was 81.1%, while 18.9% of students were free from neck & low back pain. NP presented in 74.4% of students and LBP presented in 73.1% of all studied students. 66.4% of participants reported both NP & LBP. There was statistical significant association between reading hours (> 3 hours/ day) and NP & LBP. Conclusion: High prevalence of NP and/or LBP 81.1% among medical students. Students complaining from NP and/or LBP had longer studying and reading time, presented mostly in clinical years in addition they had ergonomic problems and poor psychological studying environments.

Background: Normal growth is essential for development and general health of children. Height and weight measurements are therefore the most important clinical findings in child development. In fact, short stature is a common problem for children. It should not be neglected because the underlying medical conditions must be detected and treated before satisfactory catch-up growth can be demonstrated. Objective: This study was aimed to improve health status of the preparatory school children in Sharkia Governorate, and to find the impairment factors associated with growth. Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional study included a total of 538 students aged 12-15 years selected from preparatory schools in Menia El-Kamh Sharkia governorate. This study was conducted between July 2017 to March 2018. Results:The overall prevalence of short stature (SS), underweight, overweight, and obesity were 7.1%, 2.4%, 24.5%, and 11.7% respectively. Conclusion:The importance of assessment of Anthropometric measurement in children. Prevelance of overweight and obesity in Preparatory School students was common. Obesity was common among females than males in our study.
