Ga-67 scanning is more sensitive than routine chest radiography for detection of both TB parenchymal lung involvement and adenopathy. Ga-67 imaging facilitates the choice of biopsy sites by identifying accessible peripheral nodes. Typical patterns in recent cases of TB differ significantly from the upper lobe predilection of classical TB.
Intraosseous infusion, a mode of peripheral access largely abandoned in the 1940s and 1950s, is becoming increasingly popular in the setting of pediatric crisis. While complications are rare when the procedure is properly performed, the risk of osteomyelitis increases with prolonged infusions. We present a case of bilateral osteomyelitis secondary to intraosseous infusion.
We present a unique case of a patient with a clinical history of distal esophageal carcinoma and CT appearance of lipomatous hypertrophy of the interatrial septum who displayed fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in the interatrial septal fat on only the second of 4 serial PET/CT studies. As PET/CT scans are used for the initial staging of esophageal carcinoma, one should not mistake more benign causes of mediastinal uptake for metastasis when observing an intermittent pattern of uptake on a PET/CT scan.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
