The "Deep geothermal power station" project represents a new process for the exploitation of geothermal energy. District heating and heating for industrial purposes as well as electricity can be produced in a geothermal power station. The heat extraction will be controlled and continuous in a closed circulation system using drillings from a mined system of tunnels at a depth of 6,000 m. In order to overcome the high temperatures and rock pressures to be expected, interdisciplinary collaboration between several professions will be required.
Discussing the Principal Feasibility of Large-Scale Deep Geothermal Power PlantsThe project 'Large-scale deep geothermal power Abstract: plants' follows a radically new approach to the exploitation of geothermal power. It relies on an underground power plant for gaining electricity from district and process heat. The concept foresees a complex mining infrastructure to construct closed systems allowing for controlled and continuous energy absorption at great depths (around 6,000 m). Currently an interdisciplinary group of experts is investigating the principal feasibility of this concept.
