Synthesis and properties of dinitrourea and its salts (NH 4 , hexamethyleneamine, K) which have not been yet reported in literature, are described. DNU can be synthesized by nitration of urea with a high yield (b90%). Spontaneous decomposition of DNU and its salts below their melting points was noted during thermal analysis (DTA-TG). Low stability of DNU excludes the possibility of using it as an energetic material. Preliminary studies have shown that DNU can be used as a precursor in the synthesis of stable nitroamines.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
