This study aims to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Consentration (MIC) of andaliman fruit extract (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC) in ethyl acetate against the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria. The design of this study used an experimental method with 10 extract concentrations for MIC testing, namely 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and 100% with 2 repetitions so that they were obtained 20 experimental units. The variables observed were the formation of clear zones, namely the inhibition produced by the presence of antimicrobial activity from andaliman fruit extract in ethyl acetate against the growth of Escherichia coli. Data from research results are presented in the form of tables, figure and discussed descriptively. Andaliman fruit extracts in ethyl acetate have varying inhibitory forces, namely at the concentrations of concentrations of 10% to 20% was 0.65 mm to 3.15 mm with weak inhibition categories, concentrations of 30% to 50% was 5.25 mm to 6, 60 mm in the moderate inhibition category and concentrations of 60% to 100% showed strong inhibition categories with inhibition diameters of 7.20 mm to 9.60 mm. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) for the growth of Escherichia coli was at the concentration of 60% with a clear zone diameter of 7.2 mm with a strong category. Keywords : Andaliman fruit, Escherichia coli, antibacterial.
This research aims to identify the effect of fermentation time on the characteristics of fermented rice drinks and to identify the proper fermentation time to produce fermented rice drink with the best characteristics. Fermentation of fermented rice drink used the Lactobacillus sp. F213 isolates. This research used a randomized block design (RBD) with fermentation time as treatment, namely 18, 20, 22, 24, and 26 hours. Each treatment was repeated 3 times resulting in 15 experimental units. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and if the treatment affected the variable, then proceed with the Duncan test. The results showed that the fermentation time had a significant effect on total LAB, total sugar, total acidity, pH, and sour taste score of fermented rice drink. The 22 hours fermentation time treatment produced the best characteristics of fermented rice drink, with the following criteria: total LAB 13,26 Log CFU/ml, total sugar 22, 35 %, total acidity 1,71 %, pH 3,99, the color and taste that sweet and rather sour were preferred, the aroma was rather preferred, and overall acceptance was preferred. Keywords: probiotic, fermented rice drink, Lactobacillus sp. F213.
This research aims to test the inhibitory extract of fig fruit (Ficus racemose Linn) by using aquadest solvent towards the growth of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. This research used an Completely Randomized Design with 5 concentrations level of fig fruit extract which were 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% with three replications. The observed variable was quantitative test of total colony after contacted with fig fruit extract and calculate the percentage death of Staphylocccus aureus ATCC 25923 after contact. Data of this research was analyzed with analysis of variance and then continued with Duncan test. The result showed that the extract of fig fruit had a significant effect on inhibitory the growth of Staphylcccus aureus ATCC 25923 or has a bacteriostatic character with percentage range death of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 2593 is 7.20% - 51.40%. Keywords: fig fruit, Staphylococcus aureus, antibacterial
This research was aimed to determine the effect of addition of blue butterfly pea extract on the characteristics of marshmallow and to determine the concentration of blue butterfly pea extract that produced the best characteristics of marshmallow. This research used completely randomized design with concentration of blue butterfly pea extract as treatments, which consisted of five levels: 0%, 0.3%, 0.6%, 0.9%, and 1.2%. The observed parameters include the physical, chemical, and sensory properties. The result showed that the five concentrations of blue butterfly pea extract had a significant effect on texture, color intensity, water content, anthocyanins, antioxidant activity, color (scoring and hedonic), flavor, texture, aroma, overall acceptance (hedonic) of the product. Selected product was marshmallow with the addition of 1.2% blue butterfly pea extract. The product has texture parameters of 1.28 N, color intensity L 16.71, a* 11.68, b* 7.62, 1.36% water, 1.48 mg/100 g anthocyanin, 43.50% antioxidant activity, blue color and liked, aroma, taste and overall acceptance were liked.
Background: Mask is one of the effective facial skin cleanser. Mask has merit as deep cleansing,it's cleaning the dirt on the skin layer deeper, binds skin cells that have died, refine pores of the skin, clean the remnants of excess fat on the surface of the skin's face, reduce skin irritation, smoothing layer outer skin and nourish the skin, so it looks bright. This study uses papaya leaf extract has a content of the enzyme papain, alkaloids, pseudokapain, glikosid, karposid and saponins. Alkaloid contained in papaya leaves is a kind karpain which has anti bacterial activity. The advantages of the mask is the method of production can be prepared in a simple way. Masks in this study is made in the form of powder to make it easier to use and storage. Method: This study have purpose to determine the results of mask powder formulation of papaya leaf extract as an anti acne that meet the test parameters include physical, organoleptic test, water content test, pH test, and flow rate of irritation test. Result: This research is experimental observation. The results of organoleptic test mask bone-white powder, scented roses and soft textured, the results of water content of 7.5%, a flow rate of over 9 seconds, pH of 6.35. Conclusion: The results of irritation test to the 20 volunteers did not show any reaction of irritation
