The machines for spinning viscose textile thread by the continuous method perform the following technological operations one after the other and ensure that a f'mished product suitable for shipment and subsequent textile processing is obtained. This thread, in contrast to thread tabricated by the periodic method, undergoes finishing operations and drying not in the form of a pack, but in self-contained form. For processing thread in any stage of the technological process, it is necessary to kr~w the mechanisms of its build-up and movement through the stages. All existing continuous spinning and finishing machines are based on a unified principle, but differ in construction solutions which have their own technological advantages and disadvantages. There are five types of continuous machines of practical interest for manufacturers of viscose textile thread. The MN-90-I2 machine (Russia) is a modern modification of type PNSh machines which have been used to produce viscose textile thread at the Cherkass Chemical Fibre Co. in the volume of 5000 tons a year since 1972. Since 1993, 26 MN-90-I2 machines have been operating at the Svetlogorsk Chemical Fibre Industrial Association. The Slovakian KVH-84 (126) machine was tested at Khemosvit and five units were manufactured. It is to be used in reconstruction of this plant.FCT-3000 machines created by Stria BPD (Italy) in collaboration with Asahi (Japan) are used in the Rieti plant (Italy) which has a 70(X)-ton capacity. The machine has relatively high technical and economic indexes. A significant drawback prevents its use in Russian industry: the lack of collection of harmful gases concentrated in the subcapsular space for directing them to regeneration in gas scrubbing equipment.Noyva Lesina (Italy, Radici group) has created the HSS-601 machine based on a prototype of a Maurer machine, but using a spinning tube. The machines are operating in a plant in Brazil and have been offered to Russian enterprises for use in their reconstruction.VCM machines from Barmag (Germany) created by license to the Slovakian KVH machine, but with an improved spinning unit (spinning tube) and take-up mechanism have recently been advertised. On order, the machine can be equipped with both ring twister take-up with spindles and take-up of untwisted thread in a pack weighing up to 6 kg, and 2 packs are positioned on one spindle of the take-up device. The machine is still in the testing stage, so that the working spinning speed and specific power consumption are not known. The technical characteristics of these machines are compared in Table 1. However, the formal characteristics do not always accurately reflect the capabilities of the machines, on which the economy of use (materials consumption, organization of labor, reliability of the technological process) and controllability of the process are dependent. We attempted here to examine the design solutions of the technological units used in each machine and expertly compare the technological effectiveness of the continuous process.
