This study was titled "Coherence and Cohesion Analysis on the Text of Description for Class X Students of Denpasar Public High School 5". The problems examined in this study are three, namely the element of coherence, the tools of lexical cohesion, and the tools of grammatical cohesion in the text description of class X students of SMA 5 Denpasar. Based on the formulation of the problem, this study aims to explain the relationship of meaning or coherence, and describe the tools of lexical and grammatical cohesion. The theory used is discourse theory, namely coherence proposed by Kridalaksana and cohesion proposed by Halliday and R. Hasan. Based on the analysis that has been done on the description text of class X students of Denpasar Public High School 5 found several things. First, in the description text of class X Denpasar Public High School 5 found an element of coherence including causal relations, means-results, reasons, background-conclusions, concessions, comparisons, paraphrases, amplicatives, time additives (simultaneous and successive ), non-time additives, identification, generic-specific, means-purpose, and like. Second, lexical cohesion tools found include repetition (repetition), equivalent words (synonyms), opposite words (antonyms), word sanding (collocation), and equivalence (equivalence). Third, the tools of grammatical cohesion found include reference (reference), concatenation (conjunction), lapse (elipsis).
This research entitled “The News Report of Metro TV Reporter: The research of effective sentence”. The aim of this research was to find out the description, error, and percentage of effective and ineffective sentence in the news report of Metro TV reporter. The used theory refer to some ideas from the experts, those are Keraf (1980), Razak (1986), Sugono (2001), Putrayasa (2014), and Agency of Language Development and Coaching (2014). The used method to collect the data in this research was observation method, then the data was analyzed with qualitative descriptive method, quantitative method, and agih method. Method of presenting analyzed data that used in this research were formal and informal method. Data source in this research was from twelve videos of news report of Metro TV reporter in 2018. The result of this research showed that Metro TV reporter's understanding of the use of effective sentences reach 30, 22% from 12 news reports. This is proven by the discovery of 97 ineffective sentences out of 139 sentences. The error of ineffective sentence in news report of Metro TV reporter was divided into four kinds, those were the accuracy of information 7 sentences (5.03%), stiffness 6 sentences (4,32%), efficiency 48 sentences (34.53%), multiple errors and plural 36 sentences (25.90%). The total percentage of the error ineffective sentence as a whole was 69.78%. Based on this percentage, the highest frequency of errors was in the aspect of efficiency.
This study aims to find out: (1) Students' vocabulary mastery in making simple English sentences before applying STAD type cooperative learning methods; 2) Students 'vocabulary mastery in making simple English sentences after applying STAD type cooperative learning methods, (3) Effectiveness of applying STAD type cooperative learning models on increasing students' English vocabulary mastery in making simple sentences. This is a type of experimental research with qualitative and quantitative approaches. In this study using one group pretest and posttest research. The subjects of this study were 30 students in grade 5 SDN 9 Kesiman while the object was the mastery of students' vocabulary in making simple sentences. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and written tests. Qualitative and quantitative methods are applied in analyzing data. The results showed that: (1) There were 10 students whose 37.5% of the subjects were in the standard completeness score> 60. Meanwhile, the remaining 20 students namely 62.5% had not yet reached the standard completeness score. The average student score is 50.5 and it is quite low. Errors found in answering objective questions and making simple sentences lie in sentence structure, subject-verb relations, word choices, spelling, and use of punctuation. This error is categorized as a lack of student mastery of English vocabulary so that when students are asked to make and translate simple sentences in English there are still many that are lacking; (2) STAD is applied in 2 test sessions. The number of students who achieved the standard completeness score increased to 27 students or 87.5% while only 3 students or 12.5% did not meet the standard. The average value of students reaching 77.8 is categorized as good. Based on the Wilcoxon test output the significance value is 0.00 because the value is below 0.05 which is the significance value rate of the Wilcoxon test so it can be concluded that the cooperative learning type of STAD can significantly affect student learning outcomes. (3) The effectiveness of applying STAD type cooperative learning methods to increase students' vocabulary mastery in constructing simple sentences are: (1) an encouraging classroom atmosphere; (2) non-boring learning methods; (3) effective, relaxed and focused learning process; (4) Can motivate each other with a group of friends to learn English vocabulary together; and (5) Making students independent and responsible
