ChemInform Abstract UV/VIS absorption spectra indicate that Fe(III) and Ti(IV) are complexed as (FeBr4)-and (TiBr6)2-, resp., in the AlBr3:ImBr melt. At a glassy carbon electrode both species are reversibly reduced in a one-electron process with voltammetric half-wave potentials of ca. -0.09 V (Fe) and -0.30 V (Ti) in the 40:60 AlBr3:ImBr ionic liquid. Addition of Li2CO3 to the ionic liquid produces an oxide bromide complex, possibly (TiOBr4)2-, with a voltammetric reduction peak potential of ca. -0.56 V.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
