This study aimed to determine the role of guava fruit filtrate (GFF) on maintaining the pre-freezing and post-thawed quality of Bali bullspermatozoa in tris-egg yolk (TEY) extender. The bovine semen was collected using artificial vagina twice a week (n= 10). Ejaculate sampleswere divided into four tubes and each tube was respectively added the following diluents: TEY, TEY + 5% GFF, TEY + 10% GFF, and TEY +15% GFF. The diluted semen was filled into the straws (0.25 mL) and cooled in refrigerator at 4° C for 2.5 hours. The samples were kept onvapor phase of liquid nitrogen (N2) (-120° C) for 10 minutes prior to be stored in liquid phase (-196° C). The quality of pre-freezing and postthawedspermatozoa in straw sample (i.e. motility, viability, and abnormality) was evaluated under light microscopy at 400x magnification. Datawere analysed statistically. The percentage of motility and viability both on pre-freezing and post-thawed process were significantly higher insemen diluted with TEY + 10% GFF compared to control (TEY), TEY + 5% GFF, and TEY + 15% GFF. Addition of 10% GFF into tris-egg yolkextender play role for maintaining the quality of pre-freezing and post-thawed Bali bull spermatozoa.
A study was designed to determine Kacang buck sperm membrane integrity and acrosome reaction as to the effect of different concentration of freeze drying fig fruit filtrate in tris egg yolk based extender. This study used 5 proven fertility Kacang goats aged 3-4 years, maintained by Faculty of Animal Sciences, Mataram University, Indonesia. Semen was collected by artificial vagina at every five days. The collected semen was divided into four aliquots in accordance to the treatments extender such as Control (0 gr), T1 (0.02 gr), T2 (0.04 gr) and T3 (0.06 gr) freeze drying fig fruit filtrate in tris egg yolk based extender (gr/v), respectively. Plasma membrane integrity and intact acrosome after re-concentration and preserved at 5ºC were assessed visually at 0 and every 24 hours for 5 consecutive days. The statistical significance of the result was evaluated by a one way ANOVA for completely randomized design analysis of variance. Data were presented as Mean±SD. Results suggest that the mean percentages of sperm membrane integrity in T0, T1,T2 and T3 at 96 h post extended and preserve at 5ºC were 34.3±5.3, 40.6±4.7, 44.8±5.4 and 42.1±5,1, respectively. The mean percentages of sperm acrosome intact were 16.4±4.8, 18.5±1.9, 21.6±3.1 and 19.6±2.8, respectively. The results of the study suggested that additional 0.04gr freeze drying fig fruit filtrate into tris egg yolk based extender have a significant preservation effect on both spermatozoa membrane integrity and acrosome intact of kacang buck.
Ada beberapa alasan ternak sapi harus ditingkatkan terus populasi dan produktifitasnya. Pertama, ternak sapi merupakan sumber pendapatan yang memberikan kontribusi cukup signifikan dalam struktur pendapatan petani peternak. kedua, sapi Bali adalah ternak yang sudah beradaptasi dengan sangat baik selama ratusan tahun di Nusa Tenggara Barat. Ketiga, pemasarannya mudah terbukti permintaan daging sapi selalu lebih tinggi dari ketersediannya. Terakhir, kualitas genetik sapi Bali ditengarai cendrung menurun dari waktu ke waktu akibat seleksi negatip. oleh karena itu, untuk meningkatkan produktifitas dan peran sapi dalam menyediakan daging dan pendapatan peternak, kualitas genetik sapi Bali harus selalu ditingkatkan. Salah satu caranya adalah melalui seleksi pejantan, sehingga kualitas genetic dan produktifitas anak sapi yang lahir dari bibit sapi jantan terseleksi akan meningkat dan pada akhirnya pendapatan peternak juga akan meningkat. Berdasarkan alasan seperti diuraikan diatas, pengabdian kepada masyarakat dengan topik “Sosialisasi Tata Cara Seleksi Calon Pejantan Sapi Bali di desa Beririjarak kecamatan Wanasabe kabupaten Lombok Timur” telah dilaksanakan dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan peternak sapi di desa Beririjarak mengenai tata cara seleksi pejantan sapi Bali yang ungul. Hasil pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini menunjukkan bahwa, 100% peserta menyatakan bahwa materi penyuluhan sanngat bermanfaat dan akan diterapkan ketika mereka menseleksi sapi Bali jantan sebagai pejantan. Disarankan supaya materi penyuluhan ini juga perlu disosialisasikan kepada peternak atau kelompok sapi di kecamatan lain atau di Nusa Tenggara Barat pada umumnya.
Populasi ternak kambing di Kecamatan Batu Keliang Utara Lombok Tengah tercatat hanya sekitar 873 ekor. Masyarakat Batu Kliang Utara menginginkan pengembangan ternak yang berbasis teknologi inseminasi buatan (IB), mengingat permintaan pasar akan ternak dan daging kambing yang semakin meningkat. Aplikasi teknologi pada ternak kambing belum berkembang karena sebagian besar mayarakat belum memahami cara penerapannya. Oleh karena itu, telah dilaksanakan pengabdian kepada masyarakat tentang “introduksi teknologi IB pada kambing di Batu Keliang Utara, Lombok Tengah”. Tujuannya adalah memberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kepada masyarakat di Kecamatan Batu Keliang Utara tentang prospek, manfaat dan kelebihan teknologi inseminasi buatan (IB) pada ternak kambing. Metode pendekatan yang digunakan adalah penyuluhan dan pendidikan singkat dengan cara ceramah, diskusi dan memberikan contoh tentang hal-hal yang terkait dengan program IB dan upaya untuk meningkatkan efisiensi reproduksi dan produksi serta efisiensi usaha beternak kambing. Materi penyuluhan meliputi pemilihan pejantan dan betina, menadah sperma, menyiapkan betina, deteksi birahi dan peaksanaan IB, serta deteksi kebuntingan. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dinilai cukup berhasil. Evaluasi yang dimaksud antara lain respon dan antusiasme peserta terlihat cukup besar. Para peserta tampak cukup memahami materi yang disuluhkan dan ingin menerapkan teknologi IB dalam kegiatan beternak yang bernilai ekonomis. Besarnya sambutan dan respon para peserta penyuluhan merupakan foktor pendukung yang cukup besar untuk diterima dan diterapkannya teknologi IB dalam manajemen reproduksi ternak mereka ke depan. Kesimpilan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah diduga terjadi menambah wawasan dan pemahaman masyarakat tentang pentingnya penerapan teknologi inseminasi buatan dalam meningkatkan reproduktivits dan produktivitas ternak kambing.
Cases of dystocia is impact on delaying uterine involution, post-partum estrus and the next mating. Research has been carried out about type of birth process and its effect on post-partum estrus post-artificial insemination (AI) of Bali cows in Pujut District, Central Lombok Regency. The aim was to determine the effect of the type of birth process on post-partum estrus of cows. The research used descriptive method with the material were 40 Bali cows in 4 (four) villages, namely Pengengat, Teruwai, Mertak and Bangket Parak. The research variables were the type of birth process and post-partum estrus, as well as supporting variables such as the age of cow, body condition score (BCS), body weight, type of bull semen and days open. The data were statistically analyzed including the mean, standard deviation and percentage, followed by t-test. The results showed that 52.25% of Bali cows in Pujut District gave birth normally and 47.5% suffer light dystocia with birth assistance. The mean age of cows with dystocia was 29.53 ± 5.72 months by the BCS of 2.53, compared to 31.62 ± 5.61 months by the BCS of 2.81 in normal birth. The mean weight was 319.00 ± 29.72 kg compared to 342.81 ± 49.36 kg. The mean days open was 199.13 days compared to 195.67 days and post-partum estrus was 122.00 days compared to 105.00 days. In conclusion, the onset of post-partum estrus and days open in Bali cows that suffer light dystocia with birth assistance is longer than normal birth.
