This article continues the annual series, started in 2010, that identifies the English and Welsh snow patches that last into spring. The author welcomes observations by all interested walkers, climbers and outdoor enthusiasts.
MethodsThis report was, in the main, assembled using the notes and photographs of enthusiastic amateurs. Various internet fora were also utilized to share information, and the www.winterhighland.info website proved most valuable of all. Photographs by unattributed others were also useful in assessing snow cover; there were so many of these that it has not been possible to name contributors individually. Estimates of final melt dates of patches are based upon existing extents of snow patches at the time of visiting, subsequent weather and personal assessment based on experience.
