Context:Dietary supplements is a growing industry, pharmaceuticals are having several types of similar supplements and multivitamins as over-the-counter products, a complete diet is necessary for a healthy body which leads to the usage of supplements or multivitamins complementing diets as needed, therefore leading to its encouraged usage among the population worldwide.Aims:The study was aimed to determine the public's knowledge and their use of dietary supplements.Settings and Design:A cross-sectional study was conducted among the general public of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.Methods and Materials:The sample consisted of 679 participants including 41% males and 59% females. The ethnicity of the participants is 100% Arabs.Statistical Analysis Used:SPSS.Results:The sociodemographic data showed there were more female participants than males (59.1% vs. 40.9%), most of our participants had at least bachelor degree (64.4%), most of our participants had normal BMI (62.3%). 88.5% had knowledge on supplements and only 11.5% stated they were not aware at all.Conclusions:Dietary supplements and multivitamins consumption is prevalent among Saudi Arabian population. Our study suggests the majority of consumers understand the supportive role of dietary supplements and are aware of risks and side effects.
Backgroundblood products is an interesting term as all blood and blood transfusion procedures carry risk even with advance screening of donors and donated blood. In Saudi Arabia voluntary donors are either the only source or not, the other source is paid donors and the lack of volunteers represents a major challenge. This is usually attributed to low community awareness regarding voluntary blood donation. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the levels of awareness towards blood donation in northern Saudi Arabia.Methodologyin this descriptive cross sectional survey, data about blood donation were obtained from 717 Saudi volunteers living in the city of Hail, Saudi Arabia. A Purposeful questionnaire was designed and used for obtaining of the necessary data.ResultsWhen asking the participants to rate the level of awareness about blood donation in Saudi Society, the majority of participants categorized the levels as good followed by very good and poor, representing 48.8%, 29.3%, and 22% participants, respectively.Conclusionthe broad concept of blood donation is still poor in Saudi Arabia. Further educational plans are needed to raise the level of awareness and increase the perception of blood donation among Saudi population. Efforts should be made to involve females in blood donation duties.
Background: Blood groups system has key importance for transfusion safety and clinical practice. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the distribution of ABO blood groups and its association with blood donation in Saudi Arabia. Methodology: In this study, we collected information regarding blood donation from 715 Saudi volunteers living in the city of Hail, Northern Saudi Arabia. Data about blood donation were obtained from 715 Saudi volunteers living in the city of Hail. Results: The majority of the study population was found with group B+ representing 174 participants, followed by A+, O+, AB+, B-ve, A-ve, representing 165, 153, 47, 29,20,9,and 7 participants, in this order. Conclusion: The major blood group among Saudi population is group B+ followed by group A+ and O+. Individuals with rare blood groups were less likely to participate in blood donation programs, which necessitate the need for educational programs using motivating factors.
Transit neonatal hyperparathyroidism (TNHP) is a very rare recessive mutation in the calcium channel transporter. TNHP is defined as an impairment of calcium transportation from the mother to the fetus prenatally and mainly in the third trimester. TNHP classically presents with skeletal deformities and subsequently affects multiple systems. TNHP has been linked to a mutation in the transient receptor potential cation channel, subfamily V, member 6 (TRPV6). We report a case of a full-term male infant diagnosed with TNHP prenatally from a medically free mother. The patient was discharged home at the age of 28 days after an excellent response to the trial of calcium infusion.
This study aims to find out the Economic condition of the vulnerable population of Bangladesh in the COVID-19 situation. This study uses the primary data of 203 respondents who were collected from all around Bangladesh using convenience and purposive sampling during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, a comparison of expected income in the COVID-19 situation is made with the pre-COVID-19 situation using Welch two-sample t-test, and the possible impact on Expenditure and Savings is discovered using OLS estimation. Descriptive analysis is also included considering the key economic variable of the respondents. This study finds a significant drop in income due to the COVID-19 pandemic and infers that it will cause both drop-in expenditure and monthly savings. Moreover, this study gives an overall idea of the situation of vulnerable people in the COVID-19 situation. This paper intends to help the stakeholders and policymakers to understand the situation of the vulnerable population of Bangladesh during the COVID-19 pandemic.
