temperatures far beyond this could be reached [9, 101, and there has even been speculations that nuclear fusion could be obtained by sonoluminescence [ll, 12]! In this article we 1 FrrsWnw demonstrate experimentally that this is very improbable.

AbstractWe have performed an experiment on sonoluminescence in liquid heavy water. We have vefied that sonoluminescence takes place with air bubbles as well as with D, bubbles in heavy water (98.5% D,O). No radioactivity originating from the phenomenon has been observed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
