Low energy lasers (LEL) have been successfully applied fr the treatment of more than 10 thousand patients in the Sklifosovsky Scientific Research Institute for Emergency Medicine. We have reviewed and generalized the results of clinical investigations of 34 patients with trauma of motor-locomotive system, 15 patients with muscular atrophy occured as a result of lower extremity fracture immobilization, 124 patients with burns and of 88 postinfarction patients with ischemic heart disease, who underwent laser therapy with He-Ne laser, N2 Ultra-Violet (UV) and GaAs Infra-Red (IR) lasers.The clinical effect of laser therapy of traumatic injuries lies in shortening the inflammatory-necrotic stage of wound process, in reducing the period of wound granulation and epithelization. A considerable decrease of suppuration rate after laser therapy has been noted. Anthropometric and electrophysiologic methods of investigation of patients with muscular atrophy definitely indicate the reduction of injured extremity rehabilitation period. Veloergometric tests and electrocardiographic (ECG) studies of postinfarction patients with ischemic heart disease clearly show the lower incidence of stenocardia attacks, increased exercise tolerance and a longer remission after laser therapy. Experimental and clinical investigations have proved the effectiveness of LEL application to treatment.
