Purpose – The purpose of this study is to measure and compare The Stability of the efficiency of insurance companies, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, at 70 insurance institutions (both sharia and conventional) in Indonesia over Five years, from 2016 to 2020.Methodology – Non-parametric approach, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), then extended by Window DEA analysis was employed as the research method.Findings – This study found that COVID-19 has little effect on Insurance efficiency. COVID-19 has a detrimental impact on the efficiency of conventional insurance but does not affect Sharia insurance. This study also found that most Indonesian Insurances are considered the worst performers in terms of efficiency and efficiency stability during the study period. Most of the insurances are included in quadrant IV (low efficiency and high stability). Furthermore, according to the window DEA analysis, the most relatively stable value of Indonesian Insurances is Sinarmas Conventional InsuranceOriginality – The study that focuses on measuring the efficiency of sharia insurances compared to the efficiency of conventional insurances in Indonesia during the COVID-19 outbreak has never been conducted. This study was the first to measure and compare the efficiency of Indonesian Insurances using the Window DEA analysis.
The practice of waqf is usually focused on a building or piece of land. Many donors end up not being able to afford the assets to participate in the Waqf. Cash waqf allows people of all backgrounds to engage in long-term charitable work. This study aims to analyze the sentiment generated from the social media ‘Twitter’ application regarding cash waqf. The technique employed is sentiment analysis of secondary data consisting of 330 tweets. The results showed that positive sentiment was the highest result with a percentage of 53%, followed by neutral sentiment at 32.1%, and negative sentiment at 14.8%. The good (positive) sentiment is the opinion of Twitter users who tweet about cash waqf topics by being positive and tend to be optimistic in responding to the existence of cash waqf and supporting the development of cash waqf. While the negative sentiment is the opinion of Twitter users who tend to express criticism in reviewing developments related to cash waqf. According to the findings, the majority of individuals are more pleased about the existence of cash waqf. As a result, increasing the number of scientific literature publications in indexed journals of cash waqf is necessary to maintain this favorable view.
Purpose – This study aims to measure the efficiency level of Indonesian Banking in the period 2015-2020, especially in the year 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic began to spread in Indonesia. In addition, the efficiency determinant was further analyzed to find some factors that affect banking efficiency.Methodology – Non-parametric approach-Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Tobit Regression were employed as the research methods to determine determinants that affect efficiency level.Findings – The findings show that the efficiency level of Indonesian Banks experienced a decreasing trend in 2020. The impact of Covid-19 on banking efficiency was also confirmed by RTS, which was included in the Decreasing Return to Scale (DRS) category. Islamic banking scored a higher score of 0.66 than conventional banking, with a score of 0.59. In addition, Indonesian Banks' most crucial variable to be improved during the pandemic is total financing. This study also found that ROA and LDR/FDR significantly affects banking efficiency. Therefore, Indonesian Banks should maintain and increase their bank profitability and financing distributions to improve their efficiency.Implication – This research can be used as guidelines for policymakers, especially bank management, to improve their weaknesses in terms of banking efficiency. Originality – This study was the first research that focuses on measuring the efficiency of Islamic banks compared to conventional banks in Indonesia during the Covid-19 and precisely measures the bank's internal factors affecting bank efficiency.
Purpose − This study aims to measure and compare the efficiency of Islamic and conventional banks in Indonesia and Malaysia, from 2015 to 2020.Methodology − Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was employed as a research method for measuring efficiency. The DEA results are also used to identify input or output variables that must be improved if the Decision-Making Unit (DMU) needs to improve efficiency in form of potential improvement.Findings − This study shows that Covid-19 had an impact on decreasing the efficiency level of Indonesian and Malaysian Banks. This study also shows that Indonesian Banks are relatively efficient compared to Malaysian Banks. Nevertheless, Islamic bank is more affected by Covid-19 compared to conventional. In addition, the most important variable performance to be improved by banks during the Covid-19 pandemic is total financing.Implication − It can be used as a guideline for both nations to improve their shortcomings in each type of bank and to strengthen the banking system during economic downturns in order to speed up the recovery process.Originality − This is the initial study to examine the banking efficiency of Indonesia and Malaysia during the covid pandemic-induced economic crisis. As a result, it is expected to capture the impact of the covid-19 epidemic on banking efficiency.
The word “halal” experiencing developments in its application in daily life. Traditionally, halal was seen to refer only to meet and poultry, especially refer to the method of slaughter. More recently, this has grown to include non-meet foods such as baked goods, snacks, confectionery, ready-made meals and other processed food and beverage products. as halal is a 'farm-to-fork' process with halal compliance needed all the way through the supply chain, aspects such as warehousing, transportation and logistics all play a role in maintaining and demonstrating halal integrity This study aims to determine the trend development and text analytic on “halal” uses a text analytic method with R tools, which processes the metadata of 884 Scopus indexed articles with the keywords with “halal” in the subject areas of Economics, Econometrics, finance (EEF), and Business, Management, and Accounting (BMA). The results of the text analysis show that the research related to “halal”, dominated by halal food and halal tourism. Further research is needed in other halal industrial sectors, namely halal pharmaceuticals, halal cosmetics, halal media, and halal fashion. This study also indicates that from object side, research documents on halal are still concentred on several countries. Further studies need to be conducted with the case of various countries. Laslty, this paper also provide several recommendations regarding to the theme of future researchs potential about each sectors on halal industry.
