Background: Meniran (Phyllathus niruri) and pegagan (Centella asiatica) are well-known medicinal plants in Indonesia. Uses of meniran and pegagan as herbal medicines need to be examined for their subchronic activity to assure their safety. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate subchronic effects of a combination of extracted meniran and pegagan on Wistar rats through haematological parameters (erythrocytes, haemoglobin, haematocrit, MCV, MCH, and MCHC). Methods: Animal models used were 56 male and female Wistar rats and were divided randomly into 4 groups. Group 1 received CMC-Na 1% (control group). Group 2 received extracts of meniran and pegagan (50:50 mg/kgBW). Group 3 received extracts of meniran and pegagan (250:250 mg/kgBW). Group 4 received extracts of meniran and pegagan (1250:1250 mg/kgBW). Subchronic test of meniran and pegagan was conducted by providing treatments for the Wistar rats for 28 days. Their haematological substances were analysed statistically by using one way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis method with confidence interval of 95% and post-hoc. Results: This study found that the haematological substances in male Wistar rats were normal and did not significantly change (p>0,05). It also showed that haemoglobin and haematocrit substances in female rats were normal and did not significantly change (p>0,05). Erythrocytes, MCV, MCH, and MCHC in female rats indicated significant change (p<0,05), but they were still in normal ranges. Conclusion:It could be concluded that administration of the combination of extracted meniran and pegagan was not toxic to haematology of the rats in all doses.Latar Belakang: Meniran (Phyllanthus niruri L.) dan pegagan (Centella asiatica L.) merupakan salah satu tanaman obat yang dikenal baik di Indonesia. Pemanfaatan meniran dan pegagan perlu dilakukan evaluasi secara subkronis untuk melihat keamanannya. Tujuan: Untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh pemberian subkronis kombinasi herba meniran dan herba pegagan pada tikus galur Wistar terhadap parameter hematologi (eritrosit, hemoglobin, hematokrit, MCV, MCH dan MCHC). Metode: Studi ini menggunakan tikus galur Wistar jantan dan betina sebanyak 56 ekor yang dibagi secara acak menjadi 4 kelompok. Kelompok 1 diberi CMC-Na 1% (kelompok kontrol).
AbstrakTelah dilakukan penelitian terhadap residu pestisida aldrin dan dieldrin pada sampel tanah dan air di Desa Srigading, Kecamatan Sanden, Kabupaten Bantul. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis, mengidentifikasi dan mengevaluasi residu pestisida aldrin dan dieldrin pada tanah dan air. Sampel berasal dari lahan pertanian di Desa Srigading. Sampel tanah diekstraksi menggunakan shaker dengan pelarut aseton, sampel air diekstraksi menggunakan corong pisah dengan pelarut campuran 15% (v/v) diklorometana/n-heksana. Clean-up dilakukan dengan kolom kromatografi menggunakan florisil dan selanjutnya kadar residu pestisida ditentukan dengan kromatografi gas yang dilengkapi dengan detektor tangkapan elektron (Electron Capture Detector/ECD). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sampel tanah dan air terdeteksi adanya residu pestisida aldrin dan dieldrin. Kisaran residu pestisida pada sampel tanah untuk aldrin (4,8-64,8 ppb) dan dieldrin (tidak terdeteksi-6,0 ppb), sedangkan pada sampel air untuk aldrin (tidak terdeteksi-1,0 ppb) dan dieldrin (tidak terdeteksi-1,2 ppb).Residu pestisida pada sampel sampel air di lahan pertanian Desa Srigading masih berada di bawah baku mutu air yang telah ditetapkan.
Kesehatan merupakan hak dasar tiap manusia dan salah satu faktor yang menentukan kualitas sumberdaya manusia. Upaya untuk memelihara dan meningkatkan kualitas kesehatan perlu dilakukan agar terhindar dari bahaya yang merugikan. Permasalahan yang ada di masyarakat Banguncipto terkait dengan masalah kesehatan diantaranya: masih banyaknya lansia kurang sehat, masih terdapat balita kurang gizi, kurangnya pemahaman tentang narkoba, alkohol dan rokok, kurangnya kesadaran masyarakat akan berberapa penyakit mendasar manusia seperti TB, malaria, rematik, dan diabetes militus, serta kurangnya kesadaran dalam menjaga kesehatan dengan memperhatikan rumah yang sehat. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah memberdayakan masyarakat Banguncipto dalam program peningkatan kualitas kesehatan keluarga. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan KKN meliputi: survey, penyuluhan/pendidikan masyarakat dan pelatihan/praktek. Dampak dari kegiatan ini adalah meningkatkan derajat kesehatan masyarakat yang diukur dengan: 1)tercipta kesadaran masyarakat sasaran tentang pentingnya pola hidup sehat dan kebersihan, 2)peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat terhadap upaya preventif menekan angka kesakitan, 3)peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat akan bahaya narkoba dan alkohol bagi kesehatan, 4)masyarakat terampil dalam mengatur pola makan dengan gizi berimbang dan kebersihan lingkungan.
Meniran (Phyllantus niruri L.) and Pegagan (Centella asiatica L.) was proven had activity that considered as an antioxidant. However, the safety was not confirmed. This research is intended to evaluate sub-chronic toxicity of standardized combination extract of meniran and pegagan on liver and kidney function. This research used post-test-control design. Twenty female and twenty male Wistar strain rats divided into 4 groups. The first group was controlled in dosage of CMC Na 0.5%. The others were given a combination of meniran and pegagan extract in ratio with different dosage (50:50; 250:250; and 1250:1250 mg/KgBW). Sub-chronic toxicity test of meniran and pegagan combination was given orally once a day for 28 consecutive days. On the 29th day, all the rats were sacrificed and blood samples were analyzed using automatic analyzer. SGOT, SGPT, BUN, and creatinine value were statistically analyzed using one way ANOVA with post hoc LSD (p<0.05). The results show that treatment of meniran and gotu kola combination had no significantly different of SGOT and creatinine value of male and female rats, and SGPT value of male rats (p>0.05). The treatment of meniran and gotu kola combination had significantly different of BUN value of male and female rats, and SGPT value of female rats (p<0.05) but still within normal range. Based on this study, it can be concluded that orally administered of meniran and gotu kola extract combination at doses 50:50 mg/KgBW; 250:250 mg/KgBW; and 1250:1250 mg/KgBW had no affected on SGOT, SGPT, BUN and creatinine value of Wistar strain rats on sub-chronic administration for 28 consecutive days.
