The importance of an abstract in a research article has turned the focus of linguistics on Genre analysis of abstract articles. Taking into consideration this immensely researched topic, this paper aims to investigate the macro and micro structures in the Linguistics and Literature Abstracts. In the previous researches, this very comparison is never addressed by the researches, hence the present research aims to fill this gap. The corpus contained 40 abstracts, 20 of linguistics and 20 of literature from International Journal of Applied Linguistics & English Literature (IJALEL). The macro analysis was made according to the Create a Research Space (CARS) model by Swales (2004) and Ant mover software was used to analyze the corpus, while the micro analysis followed Swales and Feak (2009). The results showed that there is no significant difference between the linguistics and literature abstracts at the macro level while the differences lie at the micro level. This study will be beneficial for the novice researchers as it provides a framework of analyzing two interconnected disciplines.
This study examines the dominant elements of Transitivity (Ideational meaning) of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot. The analysis of data was conducted by using computational tool, UAM Corpus Tool (UAMTC). The study has found that Beckett’s dramatic text has a considerable amount of Material processes going on in the world of the play but these processes are less directed to a Goal and are even agentless too. The processes are also not spatially and temporally situated. The characters are out of time in Waiting for Godot (Esslin, 1980). The text is a linguistic paradox; lexically simple but structurally complex. The fragmented syntax of the play corresponds with the chaotic existence of man. The meaninglessness of human life has been conveyed through broken language. It is due to these qualities that the play is able to make a mark on the minds of its readers. The present study has explored of the possibility of reconciliation between literary and linguistic approach to the study of literary texts in general and modern drama in particular.
Study aims at deconstructive analysis of the poetry Bachon key nazmen(POEMS FOR CHILDREN) by Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The poems in this collection are of great importance as they do carry moral as well as universal message for the children who are going to lead the nation in upcoming years. These poems are written by Muhammad Iqbal before the partition of India. The time in which the youth was seeking guidance and poets like Iqbal played pivotal role. He made the Muslims of that era realize by addressing the youth and those messages from him are still applicable. The theme of his poetry is mainly to make Muslims realize who they are and how do they share a different heritage from other nation around that are Hindus, Sikhs and Christians. The foundation of this work is laid on the theory of deconstruction in which Jacques Derida suggested three levels of analysis i.e. textual, verbal and linguistic. The logical as well as connotative meanings employed by Iqbal would be unmasked to analyze the hidden meanings.
