Covid-19 has led to the closure of educational institutions around the world and turned formal learning into distance learning. This study aims to investigate the effect of e-learning infrastructure and individual’s knowledge and competence on distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in 2020. E-learning infrastructure and individual’s cognitive competence were also used to determine the readiness of educational institutions in distance learning. The e-learning infrastructure includes Learning Management System (LMS), electronic devices, communication applications, and internet accessibility. Quantitative approach was used in this study with a sample of 324 participants from three major universities in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Data were collected through online surveys. The descriptive statistical approach and one-layer regression analysis were used to examine the problems raised in this study. The results show that distance learning is positively influenced by e-learning infrastructure and the cognitive competence of the students, the faculty, and administrative staff. The results also point out the university’s readiness level in adopting online learning based on their previous experience of using the learning system. Finally, the study proposes that in order to improve the e-learning process, there needs to be sufficient financial support from the government, whereas the universities are advised to conduct workshops and training, and to provide teleconferencing applications.
This paper aims to investigate e-government in Yemen in terms of the extent of e-government application, the main obstacles to implementing e-government, and its contribution to achieve administrative development in developing countries. This study used descriptive and inferential analysis methods to make a contextual and in-depth analysis of e-government in Yemen. The results indicate that the most important obstacles of implementing e-service quality in Yemen as a developing country could be summarized as lack of qualifications, digital divide, weak technological infrastructure, lack of funding, lack of regulatory frameworks, development strategies, legal framework, government instability, and confidence in electronic services. This study recommends government officials and policymakers in developing countries to improve the infrastructure of e-government and seek to correct imbalances that cause delays in implementing e-government regularly. This study will open the way for more field studies on this topic in various types of institutions.
Purpose This paper aims to present a conceptual model of transformative interaction capability (TIC) to fill the research gap between the quality of work–life (QWL) and teamwork performance (TP). Statistical testing in the study used four variables, namely, QWL, TIC, team resilience (TR) and TP. Design/methodology/approach A conceptual model was developed and empirically tested through a survey. The 240 respondents in this study were made of supervisors, managers, directors and strategic staffs who were a part of new product development teams in service business companies. Note that there were banking, printing, publishing, training, financial institutions, outsourcing, projects and event organizing companies involved in this research. These companies were based in the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Province of Central Java Indonesia. Findings The research adapted the time interaction performance (TIP) theory, a theory of groups. It revealed that TIC was inserted in the research model. It was to mediate the influence of QWL on TP. Furthermore, the Sobel test results showed that TIC was a mediator of QWL and TP and was pertinent in improving TP. Research limitations/implications The three limitations of this study are as follows: first, the survey was conducted only in the service business industry in the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Province of Central Java, Indonesia; second, as this study focuses on TIC as the main mediator, it does not consider variables from other theories such as dominant logic service theory and social exchange theory; third, this research survey only captures the perception of the team. Practical implications From a practical perspective, the relationship between QWL, TIC and TP provides clues about how companies can pursue QWL to encourage TIC, which, in turn, affect TR and improve TP. Originality/value Using a theory of the TIP approach and theory of groups, the study proposing the concept of TIC can potentially improve TP.
This study aimed to highlight the view of educators on the teachers’ willingness to change in adapting to online learning due to the Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID -19) pandemic. The sudden shifting required readiness to facilitate both synchronous and asynchronous learning interactions. The results of previous studies on the dissatisfaction with the online learning quality during the pandemic triggered this study. Teachers preferred to use task-based learning and resisted incorporating technology in the learning process. The limited literature provided a study gap investigated in the present study. Therefore, the real-time virtual focus group discussions were carried out to obtain viewpoints about teachers’ willingness to change in which 31 participants, including teachers, principals, and supervisors, shared their viewpoints. Moreover, dynamic discussions were conducted through brainstorming using Mentimeter, collecting viewpoints via zoom poll, and discussion engagements in the primary and breakout rooms. Content analysis revealed three categories: willingness to learn, try, and be open. The result provided novelty essential as a new perspective and proposed possible solutions to address the problems shifting from regular to online learning in Indonesia. Finally, this study recommends future investigation of teachers’ willingness to change as a new concept of professional development in establishing quality learning.
