Objective: To examine the effect of aloe vera that containing bioactive materials on the levels of calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) minerals and their ratios around the immediate implanted in alveolar bone. Material and Methods: Research method by conducting experimental test on experimental animals: 9 male mongrel dogs are divided into 3 groups each 3 tails. In each animal was pulled the second premolar teeth on right side and left side, and immediately inserted titanium implant (3mm x 10mm diameter) after the socket filled with 10% aloevera extract on the right side and control on the left side. Analysis of calcium and phosphorus minerals content formed by examination of Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) on Scanning Electron Microscope on implant and around bone tissue was done on days 14, 28 and 56. The result of statistical analysis using repeated ANOVA with independent t test. The level of significance was set at 5%. Results: There was a significant difference on calcium level between control and treatment groups on days 14, 28 and 56 (p<0.05). There was no significant difference on phosphorus level between control and treatment groups (p>0.05). The ratio of Ca / P in both control and treatment groups was also significantly different in every observation day (p<0.05). Conclusion: The addition of aloe vera extract that containing bioactive materials has an effect on increasing levels of mineral elements calcium and calciumphosphorus ratio after immediate implant insertion.
Objective: Getting information about on influence of denture bases design on speech ability on maxillary denture wearer.Methode: Electronic search in PubMed and Wiley online library databases to find articles that were published in last 20 years; between January 1998 to December 2017 with keywords “denture bases” and “speech”. The articles were then selected by reviewing the title and abstract.Result: The initial search obtained 52 articles. Then selected by involving the inclusion criteria. Finally, it gain 2 articles only that suitable with the inclusion criteria. Conclusion: Speech ability is usually not the main complain of denture wearer. Subjects with inappropriate design of the prosthetic base, disposition of artificial teeth and functional quality (retention, support, stability) have dyslalia when pronunciation of separate phonemes is changed.
The efficacy of rosella flowers as an antibacterial contains anthocyanin pigment which acts as an antioxidant, vitamins and minerals that are useful for the body so it needs to develop products other than drinks and food; one of them as herbal disinfectant for complete denture acrylic base. Objective: To determine the color stability of the complete denture base after cleaning with various concentrations of rosella flower extract. Method: This time series study with pre and post with control group design was carried out using 5 complete dentures cleaned with rosella flower extract toothpaste with a concentration of 2.5%, 5%, 10% and control, and assessed its color on the surface of the polished and intaglio surface. The value is processed into the formula ∆E * ab = [(∆L *) 2 + (∆a *) 2 + (∆b *) 2] 1/2 then analyzed using the Kolmorogrov test and t-test. Result: Rosella flower extract toothpaste at concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, and 10% did not show significant differences in color changes (p> 0.05). Conclusion: There were no significant differences in color changes at all concentrations after the acrylic base was cleaned with rosella flower extract.
The aim of this literature review was to study the underlying mechanisms of the association between periodontal disease and prostate cancer. Methods: This study was literature review study, pubmed searching was used to find scientific article about association of periodontal disease and prostate cancer. Results: Direct correlation between periodontal disease and prostrate cancer is still unclear. It was hyphotesized that microorganisms involved in chronic periodontitis may directly induce mutations in the tumor-suppresor genes and proto-oncogenes or alter the signalling pathways that in turn stimulates cancer growth. Conclusion: Periodontal disease may associate to prostate cancer by mutation induction in tumor-suppresor genes.
Objective:Determination of the vertical dimension of occlusion (DVO) tends to changes throughout the human life. The vertical dimensionis determined by the interocclusal point of the upper and lower teeth contact so the application is limited when the natural teet was missing. Methods:A 50 year old female patient, partially edentulous on the upper and lower jaw with the remaining teeth were 12 (residualroot), 11, 21, 23, 33 and 43. The remaining teeth were endodontically treated prior the complete denture procedure. Cephalometric photo was done in patients after making bite rim, upper and lower bite rimwere given metal marker, the image was traced, then measured between metal to get the vertical dimension of occlusion.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
