The paper deals with the analysis of the category of grammatical person in shaping public political discourse in Serbia. The material is excerpted from government representatives’ spoken statements (interviews, media conferences etc.) regarding environmental problems that have escalated in 2021, especially public debate about Lithium exploration and possible mining. In the paper, we specifically analyzed the use of the first person singular and the first person plural from the aspect of reference, information transparency and emotional effect. The analysis of the material has shown that the first person singular is not frequent except in the public speeches of the president of the state. This is opposite to the aspiration of politicians to imply their involvement in institutional action and decision-making. However, in this socio-political context, the first person singular strengthens the leadership position of the speaker, distances the speaker from politicians in general and increases solidarity with ’non-politicians’, i.e. citizens. The first person plural provides referential ambiguity and enables the speaker to shift among different collective identities.
The subject of this paper is to examine to what extent students, future class teachers, are able to determine errors and inaccuracies in the formulation of textual mathematical tasks. The competence of future class teachers on this matter was evaluated based on the criteria which referred to the following: unrealistically given values of data in the tasks, conditions of tasks that cannot be performed, imprecise use of mathematical terminology and content, and linguistic inaccuracy in formulations. The sample consisted of 65 students, future teachers, all of whom attended basic courses in mathematics and methodology of teaching mathematics. The data were processed by using qualitative and standard quantitative analysis procedures. The results indicate that future class teachers are not sufficiently prepared and trained to identify errors in textually given mathematical problems. They do not pay enough attention to the realistic character of the given quantities and the existence of conditions necessary for solving the task. They do not recognize the problems due to the insufficient knowledge of mathematical terminology and the precision that the language of mathematics requires. The results indicate that students, as future most direct participants in forming children’s mathematical literacy, need to be better trained for linguistically correct formulation of mathematical tasks.
The paper highlights the syntactic characteristics of the sentence and (partially) the organization of the text that contribute to the formation of a spe- cific rhythm of narration in Jovan Radulović’s collection of short stories Sumnjiva sahrana. It is shown that dominant procedures are the following: sequencing co- ordinated (often asyndetic) predicative sentences, amplification and cummulation, and repetition of lexemes, syntagms and modified larger parts of the text.
