This study was conducted to analyze the hypocrisy of Popova’s and Smirnov’s in Anthon Chekov’s The Bear. It is a qualitative research with psychological approach. Data were collected from the main source and the other sources before they were analyzed using the descriptive analytic techniques The Bear was the main source of this study, and the other sources derived from books, journals and from the internet. The study focused on the factors behind the reasons why Popova and Smirnov became hypocrites, how they changed their mind and personality so suddently. Anthon Chekov;s The Bear was a criticism to its society where people wanted to get good moral value, but they were not consistence with what they said. Popova and Smirnov have shown us how hypocrisy they were. They wanted to be considered as good members of society, but what they did was different from what they said.
This research was conducted to analyze the Oedipus complex of Eben’s in Eugene O’Neil’s play entitled Desire Under the Elms. To analyze it, the writers use the psychological approach, especially Freud’s psychoanalysis theory. The writers got the main source of the data from the play, while the supporting data, the writers got from literary books, journals of English Literature, and the internet. Data were gathered then they were examined using the descriptive-analytic techniques. The focus of the study was divided into three discussions, namely the factors behind the reasons why Eben had the Oedipus complex, what made him have a rivalry with his own father, and had a forbidden relationship with his stepmother, Abbie. The forbidden relationship between Eben and Abbie is the manifestation of Eben’s Oedipus complex and his way to break his father’s deep heart as his revenge for his mother’s death. The study found out that Eben’s Oedipus complex was influenced more by Eben’s id than his ego and superego.
This article attempts to analyze archetype in Grimm’s Cinderella and Rapunzel that uses comparative studies to find differences and similarities of archetype in Grimm’s Cinderella and Rapunzel. This article uses archetype concepts that two stories have collective unconsciousness that love can solve problem. This article uses comparative studies to find archetype in Grimm’s Cinderella and Rapunzel. The study aims at comparing two different literary works. The results of this article can be formulated as follows: 1) Archetype concepts can be seen in Grimm’s Cinderella and Rapunzel because they have same characters types and themes. The two main characters of two stories face complication from harsh condition but after meeting a prince, their life change better. The themes of two stories are love. 2) Archetype in Grimm’s Cinderella and Rapunzel have similarities and differences. The similarities of the two stories are the two main characters faces complication because of bad women, themes of the two stories are love. Archetype in Grimm’s Cinderella and Rapunzel get resolution by marrying a prince. The differences of two stories are the way of the two main characters to meet a prince. In Cinderella comes to the prince party with fairy’s help and leaves her shoes that lead to prince meets and marries her. In Grimm’s Rapunzel, she meets a prince in a tower by using her long hair. Faulkner’s A Rose for Emily and Pramoedya’s Panggil Aku Kartini Saja have same backgrounds of women’s life. Kartini in Pramoedya’s Panggil Aku Kartini Saja and Emily in Faulkner’s A Rose for Emily are from noble that rule Kartini and Emily. Resesi ekonomi menyebabkan orang orang di Oklahoma bermigrasi ke California karena dianggap sebagai tanah yang subur dan makmur, migrasi dari oklahoma ke California ini benar benar terjadi pada tahun 1930 di Amerika Serikat.
