Old Providence is an island where electricity generation comes mainly from diesel oil and the power systema has neither voltage nor frequency control. This paper presents the current characteristics of the power distribution system in the Island. Then, the paer shows a technical analysis to determine the maximum possible penetration level of photovoltaic solar panels, to comply with stability conditions according to Colombian regulations. The changes that would occur in the network after the photovoltaic system is included are also presented. Results show that photovoltaic energy is a good alternative for Old Providence.
