A circular economy paradigm has recently emerged to combat environmental pollution and climate change around the world. In the fashion industry, circular fashion has been spotlighted as an environmentally friendly approach to fashion products. The purpose of this study was to investigate consumers’ value and risk perceptions, product attitudes, and behavior intentions toward circular fashion consumption. Specifically, this study focuses on three types of circular fashion products from textile waste: reused clothing, upcycled clothing, and recycled clothing. The moderating role of individualism was also explored. Survey data from 850 consumers in their 20s and 30s in Korea were collected to test our hypotheses. The results showed the influence of emotional value was the greatest, while economic risk and performance risk did not affect product attitudes. A moderating effect of individualism was found in the paths between perception dimension and product attitudes and between product attitudes and behavior intention. These findings can help retailers and marketers create more tailored retailing and promotional strategies.
Using Content Analysis on Web-based content, in particular the content available on Web 2.0 sites, is investigated. The relative strengths and limitations of the method are described. To illustrate how content analysis may be used, we provide a brief overview of a case study that investigates cultural impacts on the use of design features with regard to self-disclosure on the blogs of South Korean and United Kingdom's users. In this study we took a standard approach to conducting the content analysis. Based on our experience in using content analysis, in that study we make several suggestions on the benefits of using content analysis and on how content analysis of the material from the Web can be improved.
Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common primary malignant brain tumor, and it has a uniformly poor prognosis. Hypoxia is a feature of the GBM microenvironment, and previous work has shown that cancer cells residing in hypoxic regions resist treatment. Hypoxia can trigger the formation of stress granules (SGs), sites of mRNA triage that promote cell survival. A screen of 1120 FDA-approved drugs identified 129 candidates that delayed the dissolution of hypoxia-induced SGs following a return to normoxia. Amongst these candidates, the selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) raloxifene delayed SG dissolution in a dose-dependent manner. SG dissolution typically occurs by 15 min post-hypoxia, however pre-treatment of immortalized U251 and U3024 primary GBM cells with raloxifene prevented SG dissolution for up to 2 h. During this raloxifene-induced delay in SG dissolution, translational silencing was sustained, eIF2α remained phosphorylated and mTOR remained inactive. Despite its well-described role as a SERM, raloxifene-mediated delay in SG dissolution was unaffected by co-administration of β-estradiol, nor did β-estradiol alone have any effect on SGs. Importantly, the combination of raloxifene and hypoxia resulted in increased numbers of late apoptotic/necrotic cells. Raloxifene and hypoxia also demonstrated a block in late autophagy similar to the known autophagy inhibitor chloroquine (CQ). Genetic disruption of the SG-nucleating proteins G3BP1 and G3BP2 revealed that G3BP1 is required to sustain the raloxifene-mediated delay in SG dissolution. Together, these findings indicate that modulating the stress response can be used to exploit the hypoxic niche of GBM tumors, causing cell death by disrupting pro-survival stress responses and control of protein synthesis.
