The study is aimed at determining how structured supervision of influences work attitude and promotes job performance in universities. This is because the success of any academic institution depends on effective supervision of staff. To achieve the objectives, the study adopted survey research design using interviews and questionnaire. Respondents (107) were selected from different units/departments of a public university in Nigeria through stratified sampling technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study revealed that Junior Non-Academic Staff of the university were poorly supervised, leading to poor job performance. The cause of this is non-application of structured supervision. The study believes in structured supervision, which involves elimination of harsh supervision, enthronement of cordial relationship between workers and their supervisors, regular training of supervisors, promotion of exemplary supervision, and provision of institutional policy on supervision. Therefore, there is a strong relationship between structured supervision and high job performance. As a result, it is important that supervisors are regularly trained to imbibe spirit of structured supervision which will help them to lead their subordinates to achieve high job performance.
International migration, which is the movement of people across national borders, is a regular occurrence. Many reasons have been adduced for youth migration abroad. These youths are sometimes confronted by severe problems. However, those factors that force youths to risk their lives are persistent. The study therefore sought to determine factors that propel youths to engage in migration in spite of the dangers, as well as the relationship between bad governance, illegal migration and modern slavery. Therefore, the study adopted qualitative research design using in-depth interviews to elicit information from participants. Twenty-five youths from Umuozu community, Isiala-Mbano Imo State, Nigeria were selected through stratified sampling technique. Descriptive statistics was used for data analysis. Findings revealed that youths are aware of the dangers inherent in illegal migration yet, majority of them were willing to risk migrating to foreign countries. This is because of the strength of the push-pull factors. Therefore, youths are likely to make themselves available for voluntary slavery due to increasing rate of poverty. Hence, there is urgent need for governments in Nigeria to institute measures to reduce poverty and educate the youths in order to discourage illegal migration—the foundation for modern-day slavery.
The objective of the paper is to examine the factors that determine the persistence of learners in distance education. It also gives attention to finding out the influence of intrinsic factors, institutional factors, motivating factors and curtailing factors of students who pursue their graduation programmes through the distance education mode on their persistence to continue the programme. The sample has been taken from a diverse student population in Chennai. The analysis is based on the results obtained using the partial least squares regression method. The study has several policy implications for educational administrators who play an important role in charting out policies to retain students from the first year to the second year, or across years that follow. Students in their second year of medical studies perceived nutritional deficiency as a possible health problem in rural Nigeria and conducted a survey to investigate and compare the nutritional and health status of three distinct groups of children (Bokos in Babana, Bokos in Marami, Fulani). The nutritional status of the children in the three study populations differed and seasonal change affected the one to four year old children among the Fulani more than the other 2 groups. An attempt was made to explain the results on the basis of environmental and socioeconomic differences among the groups. This account, more than just elaborating on figures and more than making indisputable statements, aims at showing how medical students, from their earliest studies, can learn from an apparent health problem of the community, how they can be messengers of data relevant to picture the local epidemiology (practical aspect) and how their findings can be used as self instructive teaching--learning material (educational aspect).
