Students of Mathematics education often struggle with integration problem, but yet the root of the problem related to critical thinking is rarely investigated. This article reports research where the first-year students of Mathematics Education of PGRI University Semarang were given an integral problem, then individually they were interviewed related to the answer they have made. The findings of students' difficulties in working on integration problem were confirmed through several questions in the interview which aimed to uncover their critical thinking process related to concepts, procedures, and problem solving. This study shows that student difficulties in Integration by disc method such as failure in identifying radius of a rotary object, specify partition, and integration bounds are closely related to their failure to think critically related to concept, skills, and problem solving aspects of critical thinking.
Keyword: transformasi geometri, kombinasi refleksi, rotasi, translasi, design research, HLT STUDENTS' LEARNING PROGRESS ON TRANSFORMATION GEOMETRY USING THE GEOMETRY REFLECTION ACTIVITIESAbstract: This study was aimed at describing the students' learning progress on transformation geometry supported by a set of learning activities based on Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education. The study was designed into three stages, that is, the preliminary design stage, the design testing through initial instruction and experiment, and the restrospective analysis stage. In this study, Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) played an important role as an instructional design and a research instrument. HLT was tested to 26 seventh grade students. The data were collected through interviews, observations, and field notes. The findings of the study showed that this instructional design could stimulate students to provide reflection characteristics and other transformation geometry informally, to classify them in the transformation isometry in the second level, and to find the reflection supporting line in the more formal level. In addition, the reflection supporting line was used by the students to draw the reflection image and the mirroring pattern and to understand the rotation and translation shapes as a combination of reflection at the highest level. Keyword: geometric transformation, rotation, translation, and HLT PENDAHULUANPengetahuan mengenai transformasi geometri sangat berguna bagi siswa untuk membangun kemampuan spasial, kemampuan penalaran geometri, dan memperkuat pembuktian matematika (Edward, 1997:187).
Development of Learning Based on Trajectory Material Cone Middle School Using Megono Gunungan AbstractMost students still experience difficulties in learning cones. Therefore it is necessary to design the learning trajectory of the material using the right context and media. This study aims to produce Learning Trajectory Based Instruction (LTBI) cone material using the context of the Pekalongan community's Syawalan tradition, Megono Gunungan, which is packaged in the form of interactive video. This study uses design research developed by Gravemeijer and Cobb which consists of three stages: preliminary design, design of the experiment (pilot experiment and teaching experiment), and retrospective analysis. However, this article presents the results of the first stage, the preliminary design stage. The subjects of this study were students of class IX SMP N 38 Semarang. In this study LTBI produced consisting of a series of learning activities, namely: (1) identifying cone sections through interactive video Megono Gunungan, (2) finding the surface area of the cone by using cone nets, (3) finding the volume of the cone by using rice media, and (4) resolve contextual problems related to cones. Furthermore, students are expected to more easily understand the cone material through several activities that have been designed.
