The normal mode instability study of a steady Rossby-Haurwitz wave is considered both theoretically and numerically. This wave is exact solution of the nonlinear barotropic vorticity equation describing the dynamics of an ideal fluid on a rotating sphere, as well as the large-scale barotropic dynamics of the atmosphere. In this connection, the stability of the Rossby-Haurwitz wave is of considerable mathematical and meteorological interest. The structure of the spectrum of the linearized operator in case of an ideal fluid is studied. A conservation law for perturbations to the Rossby-Haurwitz wave is obtained and used to get a necessary condition for its exponential instability. The maximum growth rate of unstable modes is estimated. The orthogonality of the amplitude of a non-neutral or non-stationary mode to the RossbyHaurwitz wave is shown in two different inner products. The analytical results obtained are used to test and discuss the accuracy of a numerical spectral method used for the normal mode stability study of arbitrary flow on a sphere. The comparison of the numerical and theoretical results shows that the numerical instability study method works well in case of such smooth solutions as the zonal flows and RossbyHaurwitz waves.
Este trabajo explora el flujo zonal en forma de polinomios de Legendre. El flujo básico se divide en un flujo zonal simétrico y una onda de Rossby-Haurwitz (RH). Varias características (más realistas) de este flujo zonal lo hacen particularmente interesante, como las corrientes en chorro con dirección oeste en latitudes medias y un viento con dirección del este alrededor del ecuador, muy similar al flujo medio horizontal del periodo diciembre-enero a 200 mb. El flujo zonal se combina con la onda RH para evaluar las etapas tempranas del mecanismo de acciones de bloqueo en el Pacífico nororiental. Se llevó a cabo una simulación numérica utilizando un modelo barotrópico lineal con forzamiento tropical y disipación para analizar la respuesta extratropical del mecanismo de reforzamiento de torbellinos en los sistemas de alta presión a lo largo de la costa occidental de Norteamérica. ABSTRACTThis study explores the zonal flow in the form of Legendre polynomials. The basic flow is divided into a zonally symmetric flow and a Rossby-Haurwitz (RH) wave. Several features of this (more realistic) zonal flow make it particularly interesting, such as the midlatitude westerly jet streams and an easterly wind around the equator, which closely resembles the mean horizontal flow at 200 mb of the December-February period. The zonal flow is combined with the RH wave, in order to test the blocking formation mechanism on early stages for the northeastern Pacific. A numerical simulation has been performed using a linear barotropic model with tropical forcing and damping to check the extra-tropical response of the mechanism of eddies reinforcement of the ridge along the western coast of North America.
The purpose of this chapter is to discuss certain disturbances around the pole of a Venus-type planet that result as a response to barotropic instability processes in a zonal flow. We discuss a linear instability of normal modes in a zonal flow through the barotropic vorticity equations (BVEs). By using a simple idealization of a zonal flow, the instability is employed on measurements of the upper atmosphere of Venus. In 1998, the tropical cyclone Mitch gave way to the observational study of a dipole vortex. This dipole vortex might have helped to intensify the cyclone and moved it towards the SW. In order to examine this process of interaction, the nonlinear BVE was integrated in time applied to the 800-200 hPa average layer in the previous moment when it moved towards the SW. The 2-day integrations carried out with the model showed that the geometric structure of the solution can be calculated to a good approximation. The solution HLC moves very fast westwards as observed. On October 27, the HLA headed north-eastward and then became quasi-stationary. It was also observed that HLA and HLC as a coupled system rotates in the clockwise direction.
RESUMENEl propósito de este trabajo es representar las soluciones exactas de la ecuación de vorticidad barotrópica sobre la esfera unitaria S 2 en rotación soluciones generalizadas llamadas modones. Se relacionan los métodos modernos de la teoría de funciones correcta, se esclarece la noción abstracta de mapa local, cambio de mapa y atlas. Uno de los objetivos de este trabajo es entender mejor la solución de la ecuación de vorticidad barotrópica sobre la variedad S 2 y su S 2 , g). Por lo tanto, estará disponible un tipo más general de espacio que también puede contener información geométrica y analítica sustancial sobre las soluciones a la ecuación de vorticidad barotrópica. ABSTRACTThe purpose of this paper is to represent the exact solutions of the barotropic vorticity equations (BVE) on the rotating unit sphere S 2 -ferentiable manifold. When the differentiable manifold S 2 is well understood, the abstract notion of local chart, change of chart, and atlases becomes evident. One of the aims of this paper is to better understand the solution of the barotropic vorticity equation on the manifold S 2 and its usefulness to identify the properties of the solutions on the Riemannian manifold (S 2 , g). Therefore, a more general type of space will be available, which can also contain substantial geometric and analytic information about solutions for the barotropic vorticity equation.
Se analiza la importancia de los informes psicológicos forenses en la toma de decisiones judiciales de primera instancia en delitos sexuales en la ciudad de Barranquilla, Colombia, mediante un enfoque cuantitativo de alcance descriptivo. Se analizaron diversas variables con el propósito de categorizar si en las sentencias judiciales se menciona la pericial por el Juez al momento de dictarlas, y cuál es el valor diferencial de los informes psicológicos forense. También se revisó la concordancia entre la decisión final del Juez y los resultados plasmados en el informe psicológico. Como conclusión significativa se obtuvo que en el 80% de las sentencias hubo mención a la pericial por el Juez al fundamentar su decisión; en un 80% de los casos el Juez tomó la decisión de manera concordante con los resultados del informe psicológico. Como conclusión, se plantea que para la Administración de Justicia se requiere personal auxiliar especializado y que el psicólogo jurídico en función forense funge como fuente directa de conocimiento. Y se constituye como un medio de convicción apreciable.
