The primary purpose of this study is to empirically examine and compare the effects of religiosity and ethnicity in influencing behavioral intention towards halal hotels concept. Is it the religion or ethnic values that really matters in selecting an Islamic concept of hotel such as the halal hotel? This study involving 492 respondents randomly selected among travelers at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport used SEM as the main method to test the hypotheses. Underpinned by the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), the findings of this study revealed that religiosity (represented by the construct of religious commitment) significantly influence behavioral intention towards halal hotels via attitude while ethnicity (represented by ethnic identity) has no significant influence on intention to patronage a halal hotel. Theoretically, this present study help extends the TRA model by incorporating religiosity factor in the context of Islamic tourism. With regard to practical implications, the findings provide inputs to the hoteliers particularly in the hotel's positioning theme development as well as marketing communication strategies.
The rapid occurrences of Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19) have posed various challenges to our society, including the quality of the education system in Malaysia. The current study aims to first measure the impact of demographic variables (gender, age, and education level) and non-demographic variables (perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and technological factor) on e-learning satisfaction among students from a higher education institution in Malaysia, and to construct a student satisfaction prediction model subsequently. A structured questionnaire survey was administered to a total of 344 respondents and the statistical analysis of the Chi-Square test and Multiple Regressions was performed. The result of the study reveals that the satisfaction of students on e-learning experience during the pandemic is significantly correlated to gender. The study further shows that three dominant variables, namely perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and technological factors are significant factors that influence the satisfaction level of student's learning in the e-learning environment. The findings of the study will be beneficial to policymakers to identify the level of student satisfaction on e-learning education during the COVID-19 pandemic and may provide evidence-based data to improve the learning performance of students.
These articles explore interpersonal communication in the tourism industry. As the industry faced changes post-pandemic, there is a great reason for the industry to refine people inside the industry, especially the frontliners. Since the frontliners are the first people met and greeted by the tourist, the responsibilities of these groups of industrial players are indeed higher than others. Pieces of the literature suggest that tourism service providers must have expressive communication skills to give a superior product and create a pleasant experience for tourists. Hence, tourism frontliners are expected to be able to express effective interpersonal communication skills both internal and external communication. Interpersonal communication skills in dealing with people are one of the major demands in the industry nowadays. This has created a skills gap in the hospitality industry, which must be addressed if businesses are to remain competitive. It is suggested that the staff in tourism and hospitality should be carefully recruited and should undergo continual training because their communication skills are a significant indicator of their ability to foster favorable interactions with clients. Therefore, this conceptual paper aims to suggest an Islamic approach to improve current tourism frontliners interpersonal communications through Islamic-based communications. The need for interpersonal communication skills in the tourism industry is also highlighted in this article. An integrated model of tourism interpersonal communication with Islamic-based communication was proposed at the end of the article. It is hoped that this conceptual paper will be a stepping stone for research in tourism communication from an Islamic view.
