A new discrete time approach to solving the group delay approximation problem is presented using digital allpass functions for equalizing a digital recursive filter or communications channel. When dcsigning a digital Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filter to meet given amplitudc requirements it may also be necessary to design a digital delay equalizer to meet phase distortion requirements. The paper presents a novel algorithm for personal computers, called TWO STAGE, for finding the digital allpass transfer function that meets a given requirement on delay error which is defined as:Typically the percentage error achieved by TWO STAGE can be less than 1 % if nceded and is a function of the number of allpass sections used for a givcn bandwidth-the morc allpass sections the smaller the error.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
