We have calculated exchange corrections for nuclear muon capture by 3 He leading to the 3 H final state using the hard-pion model and realistic nuclear wavefunctions. These currents modify the vector and axial part of the weak nuclear current. In their absence the rate is 12% smaller than found by experiment. Our final result for the rate is 1502 ± 32 per second. For the analyzing powers we find A v = 0.515 ± 0.005, A t = −0.375 ± 0.004 and A ∆ = −0.110 ± 0.006. These predictions use the PCAC value of g P . The variation of the observables with g P is also reported.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
