The Rostock Total Artificial Heart (TAH) Summary. The Rostock Total Artificial Heart (TAH) programme concentrates its main efforts on the following topics: biomaterials and mechanical properties, special problems of the driving systems, and adaptation and fit trials for human applications. The efficiency of the Rostock TAH was studied in animal experiments using the surgical technique described by the Utah group (USA). Using 23 adult human cadavers, fit trials of the different sizes and types of the TAH were performed.
