A New Route to Seven-and Eight-Membered Carbocycles.-Several annulated carbocycles are prepared by a facile and efficient three-step sequence involving intramolecular Kulinkovich cyclopropanation of ω-vinyl esters followed by oxidation and dehydrochlorination. Seven-membered cyclizations of vinyl esters such as (X) proceed less efficient. This problem can be overcome by the use of corresponding amides such as (XIII) and (XV).
