ABSTRACT Introduction:The treatment of patients with chronic low back pain has been a challenge, and although electrotherapeutic modalities are often used, the literature shows no consensus. Objective: To evaluate the effects of bipolar interferential current in individuals with chronic low back pain. Methods: 10 volunteers with chronic low back pain participated for 3 weeks (1 st -control; 2 nd -treatment; 3 rd -follow-up). The treatment was performed with interferential current, bipolar, 4kHz, 100Hz AMF, 20 minutes, for five consecutive days. The parameters were: visual analog scale pain (VAS), pressure algometer, Oswestry Disability Modified Index and McGill questionnaire. Results: There were differences only for the daily VAS. Conclusion: interferential current was not effective in reducing chronic low back pain in relation to functional improvement and pain symptoms, however, showed pain reduction from pre to post-treatment, turning out as a viable option for association with other therapeutic techniques.
